May 7, 2003 Horsemen to sponsor Poker Ride The Uintah Basin Chapter of the Back Country Horsemen of Utah will sponsor a Poker Ride Saturday, May 17. will their bring Participants lunches and meet at the White River Bridge on the Bonana Highway at 10 a.m. Poker hands are $5 each with cash and prizes awarded. Highest hand wins 25 per cent of the pot. Funds collected at this annual membership drive and spring fund raiser will be used for club activities and projects. Back Country Horsemen of America began in Montana in 1973. Since then, it has grown into a national organization of nearly 14,0(X) members. It is the leading equine organiation in the United States supporting riding and pack stock use on public lands. A volunteer organiation, it works with government agencies to maintain and protect public lands. BCHAs nationwide volunteer contribution to all types of public land is nearly $2 million annually. Kolby Rook, president of the Uintah chapter, invites anyone interested to join the fundraiser. The National Systems Refuge May is American Wetlands Month and May 10 will mark the Tenth Annual 4-- H International Migratory Bird Day. As part of the celebration, 4-- H Centennial will also be featured as part of the event. The open house features mist where demonstrations netting small passerine or songbirds will be captured and released Also included are noxious weed control displays, live animals, wetland management booth and wetland viewing. Kyle Partridge and James Redden placed high enough to be on the state team which will compete at the International Shoot in Raton, New Mexico, in July. James Redden, who took third place overall in the Junior Division, also placed third in Wildlife Identification, fourth in .22 rifle, fifth in muzzeloader, 7th in safety trail and 7th in shotgun.
