They help a person remove themselves from the world of harsh reality into an atmosphere of luxury and imagination. The illumination of the wall paintings as well as the carpet is pleasing and comfortable and does not detract or interfere with the pleasure of the picture on the screen. Xo litrht sources are visible. The light is emitted from concealed spaces in the ceiling and illuminates nothing except the murals on the wall and the carpets which have been activated by the fluorescent paints. That is why the word nuuric" ;s applied to the black light. You can see the designs glow as though they were alive and yet you can see no source of the light. The black liifht is a filtered short wave t ray which emanates from mercury arc lamps. A special heavy glass filter is used. The rays are harmless and even have health giving properties.. They are used by poultry-meto stimulate rapid growth in little chicks and nursery men make use of their life giving properties. The rays are not visible to the human eye until they are absorbed by special fluorescent paints. The black light would he much more generally used if it were not so expensive.' The globes are of short duration and cost over $10 each. The florescent paint which is used in the murals and in the carpet costs over $00 a gallon. Nov! The decorative designs in the Scera Auditorium were created by Fred Markham after long months of study. They were hirtU in such a way that they create a restful atmosphere wihtout detracting from the screen. The interior decorating has been done under the direction of Emil Hanson. The paint and glass was supplied by Bennetts Paint and Glass Co. of Provo. The carpet was specially woven with flourcscent dyed yarn at the Alexander Smith' Carpet Co. mills and should continue to floress as long as there are any threads of the carpet. black light The advantages of are many aside from the pleasing effects. People do not need to stumble down the aisle, blindly following some ushers light. The way is pleasingly lighted. From the reflection of the light on the wall comciyinleasing glow in the auditorium which givcjusPthe correct amount of light so that the intense illumination on the screen does not hurt the eyes. Several attempts have been made to do this otherwise in theatres by placing fixtures in the side walls with dim lights but even at best these poorly defused the light. People often ask why is it called black f It is black light because the light light does not illuminate ordinary painted surfaces. Only when it falls upon surfaces treated with is there flourcscent paint or liquid light of reflection light. any At present the florescent paints can be purchased in but eight colors. Four of the most striking of these colors have been used in the wall murals. The others are used in the carpet design. As you sit down you will notice how comfortable and soft they are with the full spring cushion hacks that are pliable to every move. You will also notice that the hacks are three inches higher than the regular theatre chairs which adds a maximum of comfort. A new design in chair installation has boon used. All the seats are staggered so that no person is sitting directly in front of you. Xo doubt you have often been annoyed as you tried to dodge from one side of the person to the other trying to see the picture on the screen. It is queer that this arrangement lias not been used more often. By staggering the seats an uneven line would he left near the aisle.
