Back in Win Column Trojan Matmen in Action Johnsons Coach Ralph junior varsity basketball team battled its way back into the winning column with weekend victories over the Manila Mustangs and the Cokeville Panthers. Friday night, January 6, the Trojans returned from their Holiday vacation and played host to the Manila Mustangs. The Mustangs found thf'eonfines of the Trojan gym very Unfriendly as South Rich exploded for 28 first quarter points while holding Manila to 9. Four players led the way with three baskets each. They were Wayne Winder, Troy Parker, Brian Tingey, and Wayne Weston. Coming off the bench in the second quarter with two baskets was Steve Stacey. Rhett Grolls basket helped the Trojans movie to a half-tim- e lead of 38 - 17. The third found the Trojans taking up quarter where they left off with Dean Stuart and Wayne Weston leading the way, as they blew to a 52 - 22 end of quarter lead. Coach Johnson proceeded to' clear his bench and got some outstanding play from Freshman Neil Argyle, who scored 8 points. On the night, ten Trojans broke into the the final score 63 scoring column 37. They were 5 for 16 from the foul line and led in scoring by Dean Stuart with 11; Wayne Weston - 10; Wayne Winder, Troy Parker, and Neil Argyle all with 8 each; and Brian -- Tingey and Steve Stacy with 6 each, r For the Manila Mustangs, who were 17 for 31 from the line and led ini scoring by Skipton with 12, Smith and! Pullensen with 8 points each. Saturday evening found the Trojans hosting the Panthers from This game Cokeville, Wyoming. turned into a real battle as the young Panthers came prepared to play. Leading the Trojans first quarter effort was Brian Tingey with 6 and Wayne Weston with 4 points, and the Trojans grabbed a first stop lead of 14 - 10. The second period found the Trojans extending their lead to 24 16 with Brian Tingey again leading the j -- way. The Panthers returned from their and fought their way back into the game, cutting the Trojan lead to 5 points at the end of the third period. The final quarter found Wayne Weston taking control of the game scoring four baskets and making two clutch free throws. Troy Parker hit on a couple of free throws, as the Trojans moved on to win 51 43. The Trojans were 6 for 15 from the line and led in scoring by Wayne Weston with 16; Brian Tingey 10; Troy Parker and Wayne Weston with 8 each; and Dean Stuart with 6. For the Panthers, 7 for 21 from the line and led in scoring byHolden. with 12 and Robinson with 8. half-tim- e -- -- South Rich Lady Gymnasts On Wednesday, January 12, Coach Louise Atchley and her physical education classes presented a gymnastics program at the South Rich High School gym. A good crowd watched the gymnists perform the vault, floor exercise, uneven parallel bars, and the beam. Spectators were impressed with the skills developed by these students through the physical education program. All of the participants received applause from the Refreshments were served. on-looke- Little League Schedule Changed by Larry Johnson Due to the winter weather, it was necessary to cancel last Saturdays little league basketball games. A revision in the schedule is being made. For those who have schedules, they need simply cross out January 14, and move all dates back one week. For example, the games scheduled for January 14, will be played on January 21. This will continue our playing dates to February 18 instead of February 11.
