South Rich exploded to a quick first quarter lead on the strength of three baskets by Darrin Tingey, and two each from Chad Peart and Krehl Brown and finished the quarter with a 19-- 8 lead. The second quarter found the South Rich fast break in high gear as six of the Trojans hit the scoring column led by Scott Eastman with 5, Chad Peart ard Shawn Buckley with 4 points each. The Trojans played a strong n defense in holding the Mustangs to 21 points by the intermission. The half-tim- e score was man-to-ma- 37-2- 1. Todd Dayton brought his Coke-- , ville Panthers to Randolph Saturday night to do battle with Ralph -- -- -- -- -- Johnsons South Rich Trojans. This rivalry has been in existance for many years but has seemed to intensify sjnce Coach Johnson, who spent six years as Cokeville head coach, came to Randolph to take over the Trojan coaching job. Ralph, who is a graduate of South Rich High, played as a high school athlete against Cokeville, served as their coach, and now returns home to coach against them. e All of this added to the CokeRich South of drama another ville basketball classic. Trojan gym was full to the rafters as Cokeville brought a large contingent of supporters. Defense completely dominated the first half of this game. Coach Johnsons intermission chat brought his team back into action with much greater intensity as they immediately took total control ot the game offensively amd moved quickly to a twenty point lead on the strength of six points from Krehl Brown, five from Chad Peart, and four from Darrin Tingey. South Rich defense held Cokeville to one field goal during the first seven minutes of the third quarter and led at the end of the quarter 40 - 20. As in the JV game, Coach Johnson went to his bench and received some strong play from Shawn Groll, Dean Stuart, Wayne Final Weston, and John Larson. score was S.R. 54 - Cokeville 34. Coach Johnson, in reflecting on his teams performance, felt it was the best defensive effort he has had from a Trojan team since he returned to take over the program. ! |
