V tXr Ml .Mr The End Is Near which carried Tooele Valley Railroad cars from Warner Station to the g International Smelter beginning almost three quarters of a century ago. Seeing streets and highways torn up is not a new sight for motorists, but work on Tooeles Vine Street is more than the usual street repair. The old station broods in the background over the demise of the tracks history-makin- . u. These rails carried many of the people who were instrumental in shaping the history of Tooele. In the first decade of the century, men labored just as hard anchoring the tracks as todays crew does wrenching them out of the earth. A modern-daroller erases all signs of the railroad that still holds a significant spot in the hearts of many Tooele residents. Far better to remember those good old days when the Tooele Valley made its presence heard, seen and felt as engines and cars bustled back and forth filling the air with cinders and sound and filling the mind and the eye with their awesome magnificence. Flasher barricades remind pedestrians and motorists alike that a new look for Vine Street is on the way. Whether that new look will be good or bad depends on age and background. Seeing the tracks torn out of the , earth Is a heartrending sight to some old timers. r I rk t |
