He was one of the many friends who was on hand for the dedication of the new Post Office. MAYOR JAMES PALMER. Ferris WiCity Councilman lliams, and volunteer fireman, Elwood Lisenbee accompanied the guest on a tour of the new Fire Station. Colonel MacGregor was impressed with the facilities of the new station and it was poined out how well n had been planned to take care of future growth of the city. Mayor Palmer displayed the two new smoke masks the City had received for the protection of our volunteer fireman The water-tantruck, which is capable of carrying quite adequate water loads to remote areas where the water supply is questionable, is also a later addition to the Fire Station. THE LARGE RECREATION activity room on the south end of the building is almost finished. The drapes were donated by the Firemens Auxiliary and looked lovely. The many, many hours of volunteer labor on this beaitu-fu- l building has really paid off. It is an asset to our community and the firemen, their wives and anyone who has helped on it in anyway must surely be commended. This week the J I. Bank Construction ! rojjress It . Construction on t he new tee- hive State Bank is showing progress. The big vault, although still covered and boxed in, presents a formidable sight, its strength being both seen and felt, psychologically, that is. It seems to create a feeling of pride and security, as well as anticipation to watch this building being erected. The dav will soon arrive when one will notice the year 1962 or 1963 etched in front of this building. Years from now, we will recall this year in the same way some people remember the date of 1922 when the Second and Clark Ward chapel was built, or 1929 when the Grantsviile High School gymnasium was built. We will be following the progress of our new bank, with interest, knowing that this will soon become, as the new post office building, another asset to our community. McKay, of the LDS Church, whom they met by luck on the HIGHLIGHT Dear Readers: I am opposed to the proposed and I zoning of Grantsviile, would like to give some of my reasons. I know these reasons I give are purely personal, and dont reflect on the hundreds of people who have many other reasons too numerous to relate in one article. I would first like to state that I am proud of Grantsviile, and I am very glad 1 chose it for my home. I hold no remorse for scout cabins, theaters or railroad stations or the people who protested their creation or destruction. These people surely had their reasons (one reason in the case of the scout cabin might be that some couldn't condone illicit parties, and I understand that to police it against some malicious people was next to impossible. As for railroad stations, take a look at Marshal and it will give a better description than I could.) That as it WITHDRAWS FROM BALLOT might be, I am glad of our history and the people who made Mrs. Lovina Lawrence, who it. And, I cant see what part was a candidate for President these things play in a new set of the Tooele County Chapter of of laws called Zoning. If I had the Daughters of Utah Pioneers so sadistic complaints announces she has withdrawn aboutmany our history 1 would surely from the ticket. move. Mrs. Elba Brown, whose name I BELIEVE SINCERELY also appears on the ticket, has that we already have too many also withdrawn from the bureaus in a government ridden with unnecessary bureaus. I Farley It. Pro & Con of Zoning Shows ' huge vault has been put in place and the building will be constructed around Temple grounds, last week during a field trip to Salt Lake City to see some of the things they had been studying about in school. We have a lot of fine people coming into our town and we want to welcome them and the new ideas they bring with them from their former communities. Perhaps they will be able to help us in the improvement and progression of our city. Francis H. Broadbent Fire Destroys Home In Grantsviile Fire completely destroyed the home of Mr. and Mrs Albert Tom, on West Clark Street. Sunday. The fire had to be put out twice, once in the early morning and later in the afternoon. was lantern kerosene A blamed for starting the fire and smoldering ashes caused it to start up again. Mrs Tom reported everything bedding, clothing. destroyed. food and furniture. Mr and Mrs. Tom were in Wendover when the fire occur-cand were not aware of their loss until they had returned to d Grantsviile. U monthly An automobile parked nearby was also destroved. Stop by and view our WESTINGHOUSE Bailey Appliances By adding this now bureau with its set of laws we will surely pay for it economically (taxes), and the loss of some freedoms which these laws will certainly take away. Some changes might be in order, but cant we handle these with some planning and specific well placed ordinances, instead of a complete set of laws that will surely hurt some of us and cause feeling among all. We hear so much about progress that some think that any step is a step in the right direction This isnt true and anyone who says we arent progresneeds to look around. sing Grantsviile has just completed a new fire station and a Post as well as a city park, and I understand a new stake house is in order. More homes are unnow than at der construction any period in our history. Also, it would appear to me that all of these mentioned buildings are in some what of a natural zoning process without an elaborate set of laws. I know we owe this type of planning to our fine mayor and city council, and to the wise leaders of our church Lets keep this free and natural type of zoning up, but dont force zoning on us I couldnt ask for better neighbors than I now have. We have a wonderful relationship, and a interest feeling of neighborly that is fast fading in large cities that are zoned. I would hate to see anything interfer with this peace that we have. Some of us have stock that a town this size is entitled, and still we have a fine relationship. I live in Grantsviile because it is a small free, good natured community based on the interests of others. When people want to change this I will be opposed. I WILL CONTINUE to fight for the freedom we have in our community; something all people dont have. Lets keep it. P.S.: I have been to both meetings on zoning, and will surely be in attendance at any others that might be called. 154 W. Main St. Grantsviile COLOR TV !
