SO's. and 90's. Their names have a kind of magir ring to them, as if they were destined from the start to ho . Frisco and Silver phosts Reef. Morcur. Mammouth and Ophir, Clifton. Gold Mill and Knightsville. All types of mobile crime and passing of bad checks have grown, and demands on sheriff office services, such as vehicle registration and search and rescue have mounted SHERIFF GILLETTE received national and international recognition. and newspaper and television coverage, just a year ago this month, for the capture of two killers, AWOL from a Texas Army Camp. The two were in a binge of mass murder, taking the lives of seven people. Less than a month before this case of national importance, Sheriff Gillette took part in the tracking down of two men responsible for blowing up three microwave towers in Tooele County. HE INSTITUTED the Sheriffs Jeep Posse, comprised of 12 local citizens, special deputies, who own specially equipped four wheel drive vehicles, two years ago. Since then, posse members have participated in 24 rescues. During his three terms in ofhas infice, Sheriff Gillette creased the professional training of his deputies. From Nov. to May, when traffic on county roads slows and the young people are back in school, the Sheriff conducts weekly training sessions which are attended by the sheriff's deputies and Tooele City police. was GILLETTE SHERIFF in Tooele, born and educated attending Tooele High School and the University of Utah. Sheriff Gillette is a member of the Utah Peace Officers Association, was state president of the Utah Sheriffs Association and at present serves as guest instructor at the Police Officers Training Academy at Camp Williams. He has just been elected First Vice President of the Utah Ray Pruett, incumbent Tooele County Surveyor, and Chairmar of the Tooele County Democratic Party, is also running for unopposed. Mr. Pruett, a graduate civil was elected engineer, County Surveyor in 1958 on a write in vote. A NATIVE of Arkansas. Mr. Pruett has dabbled in politics since he was 18 years old and started to take serious notice of political policies when he went into business for himself, shortly after World War II He came to Utah as a member of the Corps of F.ngineers in April, 1941 He later became the Chief Engineer at Wendover Air Force Base. After the war, Mr. Pruett settled in Tooele and started in the real estate business. Besides holding a brokers license, he is the owner of the Streamliner Lounge MR. PRUETT started out as a precinct worker, advanced to precinct chairman, became secretary in the Tooele County Democratic Party and was finally elected County Chairman, a position which he has held for three terms.
