There are eiunmunity concerns about the Mcnum.i! Park being built in Mona. "I h.ie had a few people contact me and ask if they will get their money back," said Harry Newell, council member. These are folks who donated fait h large sums to t he park fund to be used in construction of the fuilitv. There have been some lumps m the road to construction as tar as determining just how the park w ill be built. At first, the memorial was to be constructed in tandem with a skate park but the city council decided against that use because of liability issues. Since that time, several discussions about possible park designs have been held among council members. "I would still like to have a sledding hill for the voting people of the community to enjoy, said l.rvce Lvnn, niavor. In addition, the park would have picnic areas as well and , While the construction of the power plant takes place, a lower speed zone has been set for the state road w hich travels through the community. The sign posted on that highway warns of a school crossing and reduced speed while the lights are flashing. However, the lower speed is already in place and that speed rate protects pedestrians, said Newell. I wonder if the city should get rid of the flashing lights. Newell said. In all likelihood, the parent group at the school would still want the crossing and would still support keeping it. That does not mean, however, that the flashing lights need to be turned on. The period starting with the storm on Saturday morning and through Sunday, was particularly difficult for officers. That was true particularly in the southern part of the state all the way from East Juab County to Cedar City, he s.ud. 'It was a dandy .storm." said Orme. The storm hit during the highest volume of traffic as those who had been visiting for Thanksgiving ere trying to return home for a return to a normal schedule on Monday. Traffic was heavy and many motorists were traveling at speeds too fast for the road conditions, said Orme. vv Nephi resident found dead along Sheep Lane Thanksgiving morning By Myrna Trauntvein Times-New- s Correspondent Nephi resident was found dead by two indiA viduals who were traveling past an East Nephi location along Sheep Lane on Thanksgiving morning at approximately 9 a.m. Dead at the scene was Michael James Simmons, 25, Nephi. Some Nephi residents were riding along the frontage road east of Interstate 15 when they noticed something in a Cedar tree, said Alden Orme, Juab County Sheriff. It appeared to be an individual, but they wondered if it was real, he said, The people stopped the car, got out and investigated. They then contacted the Juab County Sheriffs Office. Orme and Deputy Mike Tishner responded to the scene at once, he said. After an initial investigation at the scene, East Juab County Ambulance was called and they transported the body to Central Valley Medical Center. It was then taken to the state medical examiners office for an autopsy as an unattended death. The evening before, the family of Simmons reported him missing and possibly suicidal. As a result, Nephi City Police Department conducted a search but were not successful in ing the young man. locat- Deputy Ti.shner's investigation, said Orme, revealed that the man had left home on Wednesday evening at about 10 p.m. After he had been gone for about two hours, hit family called, said Orme. It appeared that Simmons had walked from home on the east side of Nephi into the foothilL where he was found dead Thanksgiving morning. The holidays are a stressful time for many, said Orme. If a family member seems to be having problems, get help immediately. Call the sheriffs office, family services or a health care provider such as a family doctor. Dont wait. Orme said that those w ho were troubled were also encouraged to reach out for help.
