Show I Nephi, Utah Page 6 Wednesday, February 26, 2003 i V Juab Wasps falls to Beaver By Logan Vance JHS Correspondent The Juab High School Wasps faced the Beaver Beavers in the first round of the basketball playoffs at Snow College. In a rematch of last years region championship and state championship games, Juab fell to Beaver Justin Hooper and Kellen Nielsen led the Wasps with 53-4- 11 points. Trevor Jones and Craig Higginson had 5 points, Colby Park and Travis Jarrett had 3 points, and Collin Bateman added 2 points. Juab finished the year in region and 14-- overall. Students participate On Wednesday, Feb. 19, regional solo and ensemble for band students was held at Juan Diego High School in Draper. The 12 students who participated from Juab are: Kayla Rice, clarinet; Rob Imler, trumpet; Brian Breckenridge, trombone; in Region SoloEnsemble for Band Joran Carter, snare drum; Kevin Husbands, piano; snare drum; Bryan Andrews, alto sax; Cari Breckenridge, trumpet, piano. Fourteen songs were adjudicated. Four students, Wesley, Rob, Bryan and James, participated with the choirs also. Eight songs and 6 stu- Roger Thorpe, tuba; Ryan Weight, oboe; Wesley Imler, trombone; Sara Imler, flute, voice; James Esplin, viola, xylophone, snare drum, quads, dents qualified for State SoloEnsemble. Those students who qualified for state are: Roger Thorpe, tuba solo; Wesley Imler, trombone solo; Kayla Rice, clarinet solo; Kayla Rice and Sara Imler, clarinetflute duet; Sara Imler, flute solo; James Esplin, xylophone solo; Cari Breckenridge piano, trumpet solo. Mr. Imler is pleased with all of the students who put in a lot of work and effort for this competition. The state competition will be held April 12. Lady Wasps lose to South Sevier By Logan Vance JHS Correspondent The Juab High School Lady Wasps ended their season on Friday at Snow College. The Wasps came up short against the South Sevier Rams, Mandee Jones led Juab with 12 points. Tanya Hathaway had 6 points off of two Jamie Jones and Cindi Bliss had 4 points each. The Lady Wasps finish the in region and year overall. members place at Leadership Contest FFA By Kensey Savage FFA Reporter 63-3- 9 0 On February 11th, members of the Mt. Nebo FFA participated in the Leadership Contest at Snow College. They all competed very well. Erin Peterson placed first in the area extemporaneous speaking contest. Tyrie Thal man placed first in the area creed speaking contest. Brandon Day placed first with his equine proficiency and third in the prepared public speaking. Christina Reynolds also competed and place third in the creed speaking contest. These members will compete at the State Convention in Logan. The district policy now has wording added to make certain that their is no misunderstanding of the course of action which will be taken if a violation occurs. Juab School District not only prohibits the use of alcohol and drugs on campus but also prohibits the use of tobacco. In the Juab School District Alcohol and Drug-FreWorkplace policy, the words Tobacco Prohibited for Students has been added. Since tobacco use is illegal for under-agusers, the district has added the words to the district policy to make e Students shall school-relate- e d school property, Wright read. Any student in violation of the policy shall be referred to the appropriate certain that the procedure follows the intent of the law. The original policy was adopted in December of 1991 and, at the time, tobacco was covered under the use of any illicit substance. J--i x l - 11. a fr, SHOOTING CHAMPIONS The Nephi Gun Club recently won the Southern Utah Chain Shoot. Among other teams, they defeated the defending champion Richfield team for the title. Mark Greenhalgh of Nephi won the overall title. This is the first time the Nephi Gun Club has participated in the Chain Shoot. Nephi Gun Club to hold Round Robin Tournament Lynn Ingram, who sits on the board of directors for the Nephi Gun Club, recently attended a meeting of the Round Robin Association where he submitted an application for membership on behalf of the Nephi Gun Club and it's members. The Times-New- s unanimous vote the club was selected as the associations newest member. As such, the Nephi Gun Club will hold it's first annual Round Robin Tournament beginning Sunday, March 30. Shooters from across the State can choose to enter this shoot at various clubs elected to the Round Robin Association. The shoot will be in a formal. This competition will be shot three 16-yar- 95 South Main, Nephi '. 75-targ- d consecutive weeks locally beginning March 29, and continuing through April 5, 12, and ending April 27 at the Bonneville Gun Club where the top teams from each club will compete in a 75-targ- championship.
