Limited seating and meal, please contact one of the lo- cal committee members Dave Worwood at Lynn Worwood at and Todd Day at 623-199- 7, 623-147- 623-214- Dairy Farmers Of Utah honor those who have served the dairy industry The Dairy Farmers of Utah recognized leaders in the dairy industry this week during the annual Utah Dairy Convention, held Feb at the Salt Lake City Sheraton Hotel. The winners have dedicated their time and resources to help promote growth, strength and innovation in the dairy industry. The Richard Orton Family received the prestigious Governors Award, given to a family that has used their time and talents in working together to strengthen the dairy industry. The Ortons dairy, RichJ Ranch, located in Salem is a family venture. All 16 of the Ortons children have worked on the farm. Now 10 of the children are married and there are 32 ' grandchildren. The reason we are in the dairy industry is because of the wholesome life it provides for us, and it has paid off big time, said Richard Orton. Sen. Bill Wright, received the Service to the Industry Award. Wright was selected to receive this award for his longtime support of the dairy industry. Wrights dairy in Elberta has a herd of 350 milk cows, and he also operates 800 acres of crop land, Wrights history of service includes president of the Farm Bureau, Dairy Herd Improvement association, and the Utah Holstein Association. 20-2- AWARD Shirlene Buckley, left, receives the 2002 Animal Control Officer of the Year Award from Councilman, Jim Wilkey Shirlene Buckley receives the 2002 Animal Control Officer of the Year Award By Myrna Times-New- s Trauntvein Correspondent An award, presented to Shirlene K. Buckley, Nephi City Animal Control Officer, was at Nephi City Council where Buckley received the honor of the city council. The Utah Animal Control Officers Association is proud to announce the selection of Shirlene K. Buckley as the 2002 Animal Control Officer of the Year," read the award. At city council meeting, Buckley was presented with the award by Jim Wilkey, mayor pro tern. The competition for the award is strong and it is an honor to have Buckley se- lected. said Randy McKnight, city administrator. She has deserved it for many years, he said. Buckley has been animal control officer for Nephi for 14 years. She was honored at the Utah Animal Control Officers Association meeting for her continued and dedicated service to her community, its people and its animals. In his nomination Nephi City Police Chief Chad Bowles said: Shirlene Buck-leepitomizes every aspect of the animal control officer. Her fierce dedication to her job and the community in which she serves is apparent y in her job performance and her love for animals. Shirlene is a loyal and very respected person both in her profession and in her community. The state association, in presenting the award on the state level, said they were proud to announce the presentation of the award. It was presented at the annual training conference awards banquet held in St. George on Friday, Jan. 24, 2003. surprised and happy to receive the award, Buck-letold council members. Warnick has served on the Utah Dairy Womens Board as both president and She has also been involved with the Utah County Dairy Princess Program for 20 years. Warnick has spent over 18 years educating school children on the importance of dairy products in a healthy diet. She currently sits on the Utah Dairy Commission board of directors. I feel like Im the one who has benefited and learned, said Warnick. It is the association that is the reward in the dairy industry. Since participating in the legislature it has given me a greater appreciation of the lifestyle we have as, farmers, said Senator Wright. The longer I serve in other positions the greater appre- ciation I have for my roots. Glen A. Israelsen of North Logan was presented the Distinguished Dairyman Israelsen man- vice-presiden- Award. aged a dairy operation, and later went on to manage the Rocky Mountain Dairy Herd Improvement Association, an organization that assists dairy farmers in testing the milk they produce for quality and quantity.
