RecruitingANew Generation Of Safe, Ethical Hunters Among Reasons For Special Youth-Onl- y Hunts The November 7 youth hunts are being offered to increase youth interest in upland game hunting and to teach youths to be safe, responsible and ethical hunters, Mitchell said. Weve noticed that the number of youth participating in hunting in Utah has declined significantly over time, he said. These hunts are an opportunity to get youth interested in upland game bird hunting by allowing them, without competition from other hunters, to go into the field and experience what its like to take an upland game bird. Page 7 Census workers (masking on doors in Utah Census Bureau workers will begin knocking on doors in Utah in early October to begin the first major Census 2000 operation. . The Census Bureau is creating an address list for rural areas of the country for delivery of questionnaires in the spring of 2000. Two small, temporary offices have opened in Utah to oversee the work. Census Bureau employees will to identify and go map all the housing units in areas where there are a significant number of people who receive their mail at post office boxes, rural routes or general delivery. To make sure each household in the country receives a Census 2000 questionnaire, the Census Bureau needs to know the address and location of every housing unit anywhere a person lives or could live. The operation should be complete by late Nodoor-to-do- or Hunters urged to cover game in transport With the general bull elk season opening October 7, followed by the general buck deer season October 17, highways will soon fill with orange-clamotorists going to and from hunting camps and patrolling back country roads. The sight of a bloody carcass draped over the hood of a vehicle or hanging out of the bed of a truck is distasteful to many and may wound the feelings of those who are sensitive to hunting. Some states even have a law forbidding the gratuitous display of wildlife, where hunters may be cited for transporting game in public view. A true sportsman should be satisfied with the hunting experience, without feeling the need to show off by flaunting the kill, said Mike Milbura, Division of Wildlife Resources lieutenant. Hunters can do a lot to encourage public support of sport hunting by exercising sensitivity and common sense.
