South First Baptist Church Reading through Gods Word, the Bible, we find several people that come face to face with a portion of Gods glory and they inevitably respond with fear. Ezekiel, Isaiah, the disciples, Moses and others who beheld the glory of God all fell on their faces, terrified. The shepherds who watched their flocks outside of Bethlehem defi- nitely responded that the when glory of the Lord shone suddenly way around them. They had never seen anything so glorious and so frightfully pure. One of the wonderful things about these events is that God did not leave them trembling. The angel said in Luke 2:10, Fear not: for, behold, I bring be to you good tidings of great joy, which shall not God does same In that ." way, all people leave believers in a state of terror, He comforts us, cares for us, and fills us with joy through His Word the Bible. This is because Jesus Christ is our Good Shepherd, the episkopos," or bishop of our souls. A bishop is an overseer, one who watches over the flock entrusted to his care. The New Testament church appointed men to be overseers, to proclaim the Word, to instruct the people, to care for the physical and spiritual needs, and to protect them from the danger of this world through warning and exhortation. One of the greatest examples of a faithful shepherd, besides the Lord Jesus, was Paul. The Bible notes how he fulfilled his various duties as an overseer: He prayed for the churches Philippians 1:9; Rom. 1:9 & Eph. 1:16. He made provision for the poor, taught good and sound doctrine, exhorted the congregations, trained others for the ministry, suffered for the church, encouraged the weak and humbled the proud, disciplined the wayward, and restored the penitent. By faithfully watching over the churches that were in his care, Paul emulated Christ, the Shepherd of our souls. When Isaiah beheld the awesome majesty ofthe Lord, when he came face to face with the glory of God, he said, Woe is me for I am undone!" Isa. 6:5. Yet it was this very same prophet that wrote one of the most tender descriptions of the gentleness of the same God, our Lord Jesus Christ in Isa. 40:11. He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young." While we must fear the Lord in all His glory, we must not forget that He is also our Good Shepherd who makes us lie down in green pastures, leads us beside the still water, and restores our disquieted souls. Have you put all of your faith in Jesus and Jesus alone so that He can be your Good Shepherd? If you have not, I invite you to pray right now and ask Jesus into your life and receive Him as your Saviour. The Bible says that whosoever belie-veton the Lord Jesus Christ shall be saved." h 2 Car Garage Custom Built 2 Full Baths Range 3 Bedrooms Family Income Needed 7 $69S Total Monthly Payment (before taxes) This HomeJ 3 0 Down Payment Ask about the Buy & Save Program ' to earn your down payment |
