Nephi Fire Department sponsored the class that was put on by Utah Valley Community College. Mike White, a firefighter with Salt Lake County Fire Department and a instructor for the college, taught the class. The class involved a lot of hands on training in structure fire basics, hose lays, rescue, and self contained breathing apparatus instruction. The Nephi City gas company building was filled with artificial smoke and the participants were instructed in search and rescue and tactics of fighting the fires in a smoke filled building. The class also received some old cars that were used to learn about fire and how to put it out. Bud Phillipson and Nephi Auto Wrecking furnished the cars to bum. Each firefighter donated about 40 hours of their time to attend and learn about fire tactics. It will make them more effective in fire fighting to protect area residents lives and property.
