Show Jesus Christ of Latter-daSaints, he served many years in the Sunday School Superintendency of the South Ward and as a counselor to Bishop P. B. Cowan in the Nephi South Ward for ten years. He was later a Juab Stake High Councilor for ten years, serving under Presidents Lester H. Belliston and R. Roscoe Garrett. Because of his scout activity and other church service, he was designated a Master M Man. Service to the community has also been a way of life for 0. Ray Powell. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Nephi for many years and served as its president. As a scoutmaster and later as a city employee, he placed the flags along Main Street on Independence Day, Memorial Day, and other holidays. He later became an employee of the Knight Sugar Company and worked in a sugar factory as an electrician. He gained additional knowledge of electricity through a correspondence course. Because of his interest in and knowledge of electricity, he became Raymond City electrician. During his tenure as city electrician, power lines were moved from the center of the streets to the sides, and the system was rebuilt to meet growing electricity usage. He also worked for Telluride Power, Utah Power & Light Co., and H. K. Porter Co. for 21 years following his retirement as Nephi City electrician.
