In 1934 an outdoor swimming pool was built just east of the Juab High School gymnasium where the track and football field is now located. It was used extensively until the late forties when it was torn down and the high school pool served the community once more. By 1940 Nephi had one of the most complete recreational programs of any small city in the state of Utah. Swimming, tennis, softball, horseshoe pitching and supervised play for the d youngsters provided a program (Ibid, June 27, 1940). Three softball leagues were in operation and the whole town turned out to watch the contests. Commercial league played on Monday evenings, the recreational league played on Wednesday evenings and the Central Utah League played on Friday. The commercial league was made up of teams sponsored by Allen's Cash Rite Store, Bailey-McCun- e Way, Juab County Abstract Company and Mutual Creamery. Recreational league teams were sponsored by the Nephi Junior Chamber of Commerce, Nephi City employees, Battery E of the National Guard and Wayne Ostler's Oilers.
