Christensen May has FSB names new Nephi loan officer American Legion to sell poppies on Saturday The American Legion veteran-mad-e memorial poppy will be offered to the public on Saturday, May 21. Members of the American Legion Auxiliary will be going house to house selling the bright red crepe paper poppies in memory of the nation's war dead. Funds from the sale of the poppies will aid needy veterans and their families. The American Legion Auxiliary adopted the poppy as a memorial flower at its national convention in 1920. Throughout the year, disabled and hospitalized veterans make poppies in hospitals and special convales cent workshops maintained by the auxiliary. Assembling poppies provides both financial and psycholog ical therapy. Contributions made on Poppy Day are used by the local unit to aid needy veterans and their families in the community and veterans in hospitals throughout the state. All proceeds are channeled directly into rehabilitation and children and youth welfare work. Nephi Mayor Don Eyre has proclaimed May 21 as Poppy Day in Nephi. the Jim R. Christensen has been named Timeway loan officer in the Nephi office of First Security Bank of Utah, N. A., according to an announcement made recently by Roy W. Hanson, senior vice president and Southern division supervisor of the bank. Christensen joined First Security in April of 1976, following graduation from Southern Utah State College. The Delta native has also earned numerous credits in banking and related subjects from the American Institute of Banking. He is married to the former Julie Lovell. Juab High School to sponsor rodeo Friday & Saturday High school rodeo teams from several Utah high schools will be in Nephi on Friday and Saturday to participate in the annual Juab High rodeo at the Juab Fairgrounds. The first events of the rodeo will be at 7:30 p.m. on Friday when rodeo stock being brought by Bill Critten will come out of the shutes. Competition will be in bull riding, bareback and saddle bronc riding, girls cloverleaf barrell racing, team roping and bulldogging. Events will continue throughout Saturday. He was a missionary in the Northeast British mission of the church. Brother Hunt, the first counselor to the new bishop, is 38 years old. He was born in Spanish Fork and attended Brigham Young University. He is a farmer. He is married to the former Annette Cindy Bass of Kansport, Tennessee. They have five children. He has served as a counselor in a Sunday School presidency, as a ward clerk and as an ad- Quinten Stephenson. Morgan has served as a counselor for the entire time Bishop Taylor has served. Alan Paystrup was sustained as ward clerk. President Golden R. Mangelson of the Nephi Utah stake presided at the reorganization. Mangelson praised the devotion of Bishop Taylor, his counselors and clerk and urged the ward members to sustain the new bishopric and to continue to support the various activities of the ward. Bishop Kenison has served as president of the Elders Quorum in the Levan Ward and his call to the manager-coordinato- r. In keeping with legislation which has recently gone into effect, Nephi City will prepare an ordinance in keeping with the open public meetings laws and will prepare and publish an agenda of each meeting prior to it being held. It is expected that the ordinance will be ready for acceptance by the council at the first meeting in June. The Council approved a lease of the former City garbage grounds area to Bert Winn for $25 per year and tabled for further study a lease on the Rees Flat area with Donald Bailey and sons. The council denied a request from Tom Goble for water service for a Seminary graduation to be held on Sunday Graduation exercises for the Nephi Utah LDS Stake Seminary will be held this Sunday in the Stake house beginning at 2 p.m., Vaughn J. principal of the seminary, has Pax-ma- n, announced. All seminary students, their parents and other members of the stake are invited to attend. Featured speaker at the graduation will be James D. Mathews, instructor at the LDS Institute near Utah Technical College in Salt Lake City. Mathews is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James W. Mathews of Nephi. The theme for the graduation will be Youth of Promise. He served Mona town council sets new garbage rules Problems arising from the misuse of the Mona City garbage dump area has led to the closing of the dump to everyone except the residents of Mona, the town council has announced. The council has asked that Mona City marshall to patrol this area several times each diay and issue tickets to all persons using the garbage dump that are not residents of Mona. In addition to issuing the new regulation, the council has asked the residents of Mona to take greater care in using the city dump. Residents are asked to back their vehicles as far as possible off the road before dumping their garbage. All papers and other burnables must be burned before being dumped. Citizens should obtain burning barrels or incinerators to burn the paper as open burning is prohibited. Persons caught dumping unbumed papers, etc. into the dump will also be issued tickets, the council has said.
