I I i f I ' Candidate to succeed herself in the position of Juab County Recorder is Mrs. Lucille G. Carter of Nephi. Mrs. Carter has served the past two terms in this office. She has been active throughout her life in the LDS church, having served in the Primary organization, as assistant Jr. Sunday School coordinator, and as a teacher in the MIA, Sunday School, Primary and Relief Society. She raised a family of six sons and a daughter. Five of her six sons have served in the armed forces. She is the wife of Elmont Carter of Nephi. Betty Jean Carter of Levan, widow of Donell J. Carter, is Democratic candidate for the office of Juab County Recorder. Mr. Fowkes is Republican nominee for the office. Presentlv employed by Plumbing & Builders Supply. Mr. Fowkes is active in his community, serving in various church capacities. Mayor Donald J. Eyre has proclaimed November as Retarded Citizen Month in Nephi, and urges that the citizens of this city give full support to efforts to overcome mental retardation. In his proclamation, Mayor Eyre points out that there are over six million children and adults in America today affected by mental retardation, and that the most effective weapons for aleviation and prevention of this serious problem are public knowledge, understanding, and support. In keeping with Retarded Citizens Month, officers of the Juab Association for Retarded Citizens (JARC), and Kenneth Beardall, director of the Mt. Nebo Training Center, have issued an invitation to all interested citizens to visit the center during the month. The invitation has especially been extended to parents, city and county officials, religious leaders, and service club leaders and members. Milton T. Harmon, Nephi, is unopposed candidate for the position of Juab County Attorney. A Democrat, Mr. Harmon has served as County Attorney for the past several years. He served as Bishop of the Nephi First Ward and has been active in many other positions in the LDS church, including the Boy Scout program. He is a graduate of the University of Utah School of Law, and is a practicing attorney. is g We cant say that had not been given to all the prospective deer hunters, for the State Department of Wildlife Resources forcast a sparse deer hearvest this fall. Nevertheless, there are lots of unhappy hunters who returned home without ever having seen a buck during days and days on the mountains. They tell us that some indications of poaching have been noted, and that the coyote population has increased so much that the deer have become victims of packs of coyotes. Whatever the reasons, there have even been suggestions that an open season be declared on coyotes, and a closed season of four or five years duration be made on the deer. Even a closed season of this long may not help if all the bucks are off the range. Even though this is not a presidential election year, the importance of getting Utahns out to vote is as critical as ever. Robert L. Painter is the Democratic candidate for Juab County Sheriff. Mr. Painter is presently a Nephi City Police officer, and has completed the police training course at Camp W. G. Williams. He won the Democratic nomination in the Primary election held in August. In addition to his experience in the Nephi Police department, Mr. Painter was employed for several years at the local position of Juab County Sheriff is A. Duane Sperry, incumbent Sheriff. Mr. Sperry announced his candidacy for a write-i- n vote two weeks ago. He has served as Sheriff for the past several years, and is currently chairman of the Region 4 Law Enforcement council and secretary of the State Sheriffs association. He has been active in sporting events throughout his life, and has completed the Utah Peace Officers training. Gadd, has earned a degree in periodonto-log- y and a master of science degree in research at the University of Washington at Seattle, it was announced this week. Dr. Gadd received these degrees after two years of residency training. Periodon-tolog- y concerns itself with diagnosing, preventing, and treating diseases of the supporting tissue of the teeth. Dr. Gadd graduated from Juab High School and Brigham Young University. His dental degree was earned at the University of Washington. After receiving his dental degree, he was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany with the Army Medical Corps. He also served as a missionary for the LDS Church in Germany. Dr. Gadd is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred L. Gadd of Nephi. He and his wife Kathy and two daughters live in Seattle, Washington, where he has established his dental practice. Mrs. Olsen was born in Moroni on February 14, 1882, a daughter of Jeppy and Elsie Sorenson Christensen. She married Isaac C. Olsen on February 25, 1902 in Manti. The marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS temple. He died April 16, 1947. Beth Warner, Myrtle Taylor, Linda Steele, JoAnn Tolley, and Rosalie Wilkey. Voters from Nephi District No. 2 will cast their ballots at the Juab County Court house. Voting district No. 2 encompasses the area which was the former Second LDS ward. Erma Greenhalgh, New classes offered by program Juab School Districts Communi School program is offering a number new classes to the residents of East Juab County, according to Richard Fairbanks, director of the program. Classes being offered are woodworking, longhand, sewing, guitar, personal fitness, speed reading, reloading, welding, beginning voice, piano, upholstery, cake decorating, auto mechanics, and auto body repair. The classes will begin as soon as ten people register for any one class. She had lived in Nephi since 1942. Demos change site of election Delta man headquarters seeks State Rep. position Homer U. Petersen Announcement has been by Mrs. Steve Greenwood that a change has been necessary in the location of the Democratic election-nigh- t headquarters. The headquarters will be at the buffet room of Rays Cafe, rather than at the Nebo Training Center building. Judges of election are CS Weather report for Nephi, Levan areas 1 J The polling places for the general election on Tuesday of next week, together with the judges of election as named by the Juab County Board of Commissioners, have been announced by Juab County Clerk, Earl L. Warner. Polling places will be open from 7 am. until 8 p m., Clerk Warner said. Those voters who must be absent from the county on election day may vote absent voter ballots at the Clerks office. In the Levan voting district, voters may mark their ballot at the court house building and the judges of the election will be James P. Christensen, Florence Peter- - Homer U. Petersen, Delta, has announced his candidacy for State Representative from District 71. District 71 encompasses Millard County, Juab County, and four precincts in Utah County. Petersen previously served1 as a representative from this area prior to the election of Cary Peterson, incumbent. During his stay in office, the Delta resident was of the appropriations for Highways Committee and was a member of the tax committee that revised the state income tax to conform with Federal Income Tax. He was instrumental in getting many funds for the building and improvement of highways in the Millard and Juab County areas.
