Show TB rate is up in Utah, Sophs to hold dance Lung association says Juab mores In recent years, Utah has had 1 the lowest or next lowest tuberculosis case rate in the United States. Robert L. Rice, Utah's 1973 Christmas Seal Campaign Chairman, said that five states had lower case rates than Utah in 1972. Rice, chairman of the board Health Industries, Inc., and board member of the Utah Lung Association, said a report received from the United States Public Health Service Center for Disease Control shows that the Iowa case rate was the lowest last year. North Dakota, New Hampshire, Minnesota and Wisconsin followed. Case rates are based on the number of tuberculosis cases reported per 100,000 population Iowa's ease late vs as only 4 cases in comparison to Utahs low case rate. Even a few cases are too many because tuberculosis is a communicable disease that can be prevented. The Utah utilized Lung Association Christmas Seal funds to help control TB, The report showed that wile TB had decreased in the U. S. by 10 percent in 1972, TB in Utah had incrased by 33 percent. There were (12 new cases reported in Utah in 1972 and only 44 the year before Rice said, Although the increase in TB cases doesnt appear to be alarming in size, it should be of some concern to Utahns.
