Mrs. Duane Tidwell, president of the club presided over the meeting and read a letter from District President Mrs. Stanley Wilson outlining the District convention program, to be held at Payson on April 12. Mrs. Tidwell then asked members to consider places for a field trip which will be discussed at the next meeting. Alfalfa weevil control with modern chemicals is a low cost way to insure good yields of alfalfa. Infestations were light last year, and not much treating was done. Experts say that this could mean heavier damage during the coming season, because greater numbers of adult weevils were permitted to survive. Control costs less than $1.00 per acre, and can increase yields as much as Vt ton per cutting. Whats more, by preventing weevil damage to grow-in- g tips and buds, control measures will give you leafier hay, with more high protein feed value. In view of these facts, it just doesn't pay to take chances. Precautionary treatment is a sound investment. EARLY SEASON CONTROL IS BEST Entomologists point out that using an insecticide for early season control of adult weevils, in the early spring, is much easier than trying to kill the tremendous number of larvae which can hatch out later in the season. One of the most efegg-layi- ng fective insecticides to use for control of both alfalfa weevil adults and larvae is Heptachlor. INSECTICIDE IS EASY TO APPLY Heptachlor can be applied with any standard field or aerial equipment It comes in emulsion form for spraying, and in dust form. The best time to apply the insecticide is during warm weather, when the alfalfa is about Vt to 114 inches tall. That's when adult weevils are most active NO CONTAMINATION OF MILK) Heptachlor provides effective control of forage insects without contaminating milk. Tolerance for the use of Heptachlor on forage crops has been established under the Miller Bill, and confirmed by extensive tests. Among these tests was a special study made by the USDA, in which dairy cattle were fed alfalfa treated with Heptachlor at rec- Following elections a lovely pot luck dinner s enjoyed by all Mrs. Members present were Mrs. Marcus David L. Because Heptachlor is such an effective insecticide, minimum amounts have residual effectiveness, and yet are safe for use on crops fed to animals HELP IN PLANNING INSECT CONTROL All the water vapor on Mars equals that found in a box of earthly air two feet by two feet by 10 feet, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. Scientists can now watch and measure growth in a living cell mawith a new kind of chine developed by a California scientist. X-r- ay For more information and specific recommendations on alfalfa weevil control, see your county agent, local insecticide dealer, or contact your state agricultural college. Any one of them can give you help in planning your insect control program. The important thing is to contact them as soon as possible, because your insect control program will do you the most good if its started at the right time. When YOUR Doorbell Rings cl- v. Mr. Andersen used 400 pounds of Ammonium Nitrate per acre plus barnyard manuie on his corn and got the best crop I ever raised; if I had had a larger yield than last year, I don't know what I would have used to cut it. On irrigated wheat, Mr. Andersen used 300 pounds of Ammonium Nitrate per acre plus manure, and leported a yield of 85 to 99 bushels an acre. I also increased my barley yield II bushels an acie over pi evious years, Mr. Ander sen said. The added yields I got convinced me that USS Nitrogen Fertiliser is a profitable investment, Mr. Andeisen said. 5 is one LARVAE ALFALFA WEEVIL Feed on leaves, buds, growing tips. And from these same mountains comes the chief source of the countys wealth: millions of tons of bituminous coal to feed the furnaces of steel plants at Geneva and Fontana, to power giant electric generating plants, and to heat many of Utahs homes. With reserves estimated at more than 100 billion tons enough to supply the entire nation for 100 - years or more Carbon County will play an increasingly important role in the development of the West. Bendixsen, County agricultural agent. "You have a useful accounting system if you can tell how much your net worth has changed in the past year he adds. Leon C. Michaelsen, extension farm management specialist at Utah State University, Logan, says all one needs to do is to list and value all he owns and owes and balance assets against debt at the beginning and end of the year. The difference represents change in net worth. From your financial statement you are in a position to decide if your progress is satisfactory or if some basic you need to make changes in the way you spend or earn to achieve your goals Prof Michaelsen points out. He adds that a record of expenses and receipts is needed to know which endeavors are profitable, which are unprofitable. Take last years accounts and spend an evening figuring out how much you earned from each enterprise. You then will be able to make mare profitable plans for the years ahead. with WM Invited Such famous Roman structures as the Colosseum and the Pantheon were built from a mixture of volcanic ash and slaked lime alfalfa weevils l Un-han- disc-use- Income Tax Time is Good Opportunity to Survey KILL The Mt.
