Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday, March 16, 2005 - Page Extension Agent receives prestigious award from U.S.U. 6 Jim Keyes received the Utah State University Vice Presi- dents Award for Excellence at March 16 a.m., Blanding library Wednesday Story hour, the Extension Annual Planning & Professional Development Conference on March 10 in Logan, Utah. Jim is the first Extension Agent to be given this award. At the award presnetation, the following was written about Jim: James D. Keyes has a great passion for San Juan County and the Navajo people. March Saturday 1 has developed and implemented programs that have made a major impact in the 9 lives of Utah residents. One program Jim assisted from its grass roots inception (literally) is the McCracken Mesa Navajo Education Center. Rick and Jonna Meyer are excited to announce the wedding of their daughter, Nancy Marie, to Timothy D. R. Glover, son of Worthy Sr., and Gail Glover. Annual picnic The annual San Juan picnic is Saturday, March 26 at 2 p.m. at Mesa Pioneer Park in Mesa, AZ. This picnic is a potluck. Family and friends are invited to attend a wedding reception that evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Blanding Arts and Events Center. an educational center where youth can go and learn about the Navajo culture. At the center, kids can watch and help prepare the traditional meal (usually mutton), help with the animals, and learn about the Navajo way of life. This important program brings in revenue for the business, teaches Navajo children their traditions, and teaches others about Navajo culture. Jim has helped this program grow by writing grants to help supplement their funds to develop a center that is a great asset to San Juan County. Another program that Jim developed is Sheep for Life". Jim works with many people on the reservation to help improve their weaving wool quality through breeding, nutrition and proper care of their sheep. With this new innovative pro- gram, they have taught classes As e, the chairman on the team, he tries to bring grazing permittees, Bureau of Land Management, and the public together to learn new tech- niques and sciences, build concerns. He also works with few local ranchers on range monitoring; they use photos to evaluate the results of proper use of the land. Over the years, Jim has shown honesty, dependability, ability, and social rapport. He is an outstanding agent to the people in the state of Utah.
