Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday, November 24, 2004 - Page 8 Greetings from San Diego Reporting from San Diego, California, an exercise para- dise. Perfect year round weather, with temperatures varying about 10 degrees 24 7365. We did the Wild Animal Park, Sea virate and It takes intense concentration, like Karl Malone shooting a free throw. I found myself mumbling prayers, too. Everyone who isnt running or riding a bike, or surfing is driving on the freeway. Everyone else in California is looking for park- World, San Diego Zoo trium- ing places, or spent time on the beach with collecting my daughter Trisdan, her husband and Kenyon, their twins, Satchel and Emmy. San Diegoans are fit folk with nothing to do, it seems, but exercise. Everywhere one goes, there are people running, riding bikes, walking, rollerskating, etc. We ate dinner on the beach one evening as the sun went down, entertained by a bicyclist riding on the five inch wide railing of the boardwalk. The boardwalk must have been too bumpy or something, I guess. He rode for the whole hour we were there. Then there is the beach. Anyone who isnt running or riding is down at the beach surfing. I tried a little surfing with a wake board. I wasnt very successful out there with the California dudes. Too many Krispy Kremes lately, I guess. I found that I could ride the waves a little closer to shore. I got a workout, though. for money one. After a ball game, it took 30 minutes to drive home and 45 minutes to find a parking place when we got there. If you come here, bring extra for parking. The zoo was the only place that didnt charge for parking. It was seven bucks to park at Sea World and the Wild Animal Park. More money is spent on parking here in one day than is spent in Monticello in a year, Ill bet. We had one free assigned parking spot at the were no spots in sight. It is best not to ask, I suppose, like the military, dont ask, dont tell. But the king of parking lots is Petco Park, in downtown San Diego. We were a little late getting to the game, which was good, because we missed all the traffic. But thinking that parking was full, we pulled into the first lot we came to, a dark little place about the size of a swimming pool with about 50 cars stuffed in it (dont ask, dont tell). Twenty bucks, said the sign. This is why Californians are all rich. Its why they have time to exercise all day. Do the math. The guy made a cool thousand bucks that night, with no overhead. Major League teams play 80 home games a year. Thats $80,000 a year, just for parking cars! Maybe I should charge for the bicycles that kids leave at my moms house by the high school. What made matters worse: a block closer to the stadium was another lot that only cost $15. I didnt need to see that. Itk like shopping. I hate shopping, so I always buy from the first place I go. I dont want to know if I could get it condo, but had two cars, so I had to park elsewhere. I finally parked in a parking lot across the street, which cost $3 for all day, plus a $1 over night. That seemed reasonable? home. There is nothing worse restaurant than finding out you could with the biker rail show I told you about? They had valet parking for $5. I have no idea where they put the car, there save some money on something, so I dont find out. But $20 for parking?! I didnt spend that much on my wifes birthday last year. You know the cheaper somewhere else. I avoid all signs on the way Boys & Girls Club in Aneth by Leo Platero Are you bored at home, with nothing to do? There was a nutrition pre- sentation by the Northern Medical Center from Shiprock, and one of their hands-o- n activities was to make a healthy snack and eat it. Also, the Montezuma Creek Dental Clinic taught the proper way to brush and floss teeth. Even Nike Corporation got into the act by giving out shoes at the last day of the summer program with Zachariah Wilson, a student volunteer from San Juan High School. Trips included Cortez, CO to a skate park and to the new recreation center for swimming and eating at the Golden Corral. The Boys and Girls Club in Aneth is the answer to boredom so come and join the fun. Both are extremely aerobic. The freeways are amazing. They have a life of their own, and an ebb and flow sort of like a slinky. Youll be driving along at freeway fifiadk speed, then come to a complete stop, crawl for a half mile, then up to freeway speed again over and over. There never seems to be a reason for the slow down other than there is a WOOD slow down.
