Show UofU awarded $499,822 to improve Indian education The University of Utah in Salt Lake City has been selected to receive $499,822 for the first year of a three-yea- r grant to improve the quality of Indian education and opportunities for Indian students, U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige recently announced. The university is expected to receive a total of $1.5 million over the course of the three-yea- r grant. President Bushs No Child Left Behind Act is based on the premise that every child can learn and that every child deserves a high quality educa- tion, including Indian children, Secretary Paige said. These Indian education grants further this goal by pro- viding professional development and training to teachers, thereby improving academic achievement.
