The Bucks finished with a well deserved second place finish, behind powerhouse Millard, and all 12 Buck wrestlers qualified for the state tourney. The Bucks had plenty to be proud of when the finals rolled around, with six Bucks wrestling for a region championship. In the end, the Bucks claimed five region champs, an Outstanding Wrestler Award, and seven other medals. Freshman Wade Eldredge led the Bucks with an outstanding performance. He proved his strength, holding nothing back and outscoring It was nothing opponents 22-short of a clinic as Wade countered everything opponents threw at him and made nearly everything go in his favor. He won an early match by third period over Kolby Lambertson 6. TBA Butler is Jr. High wrestling champ The Junior High State Tournament was in Vernal and Monticello took four wrestlers. Colton Mussulman wrestled at 70 lbs, but got sick after his First match and could not finish the tournament. Adam Butler wrestled at 80 lbs. in the Middle School division. Adam wrestled tough all day. He lost his first match, pinned the next three guys, and lost a heartbreaker, James Musselman wrestled at 120 lbs. and wrestled some tough kids. He won his first two by fall, then met the 1 seeded and lost. James came back and won one, but lost the last two, placing 6th of 31 kids. Aaron Butler was the man of the day, pinning all ofhis opponents in the 80 lb. Jr. High division. Coach Todd Eldredge would like to let all of the boys know he appreciates their dedication and hard work. 4-- 2. of Millard, who placed second in the state in 2003. In the finals, he defeated Maben Larsen, also of Millard, who placed in the top three at state the past two years. Eldredge took Larsen down and put him on his back early and continued the trend throughout the match. Eldredge earned a region crown, and a deserved Outstanding Wrestler award. Seniors Chad Butler, Tyrel Snyder and Casen Eldredge each finished atop the podium as the best in their weights. They made it look easy in the early rounds; Butler with a second period pin, Snyder with a firts period pin with 12 seconds left, and Eldredge with two pins in under a minute! In the finals, Butler earned his win over Paul Monroe, a 2003 State Champion. It was an exciting match with the two trading points back and forth on take downs and escapes. Tied at the end of regulation it went to overtime. With no score in the first OT, Butler lost the toss and his opponent chose bottom. It didnt look good for Chad as Monroe had gotten away each time he had been on bottom in the match. However, Chad mustered his strength and held Monroe for 30 seconds to win the title. Snyder faced Chris Pikyavit of Millard in the finals. Snyder struck first with a take down. Snyder racked up points in the end and won 12-Eldredge dominated his opponent, Todd Robinson of Millard, in the finals. Eldredge scored several take downs but was unable to earn a pin. By the end, he had racked up an win for the region title. Sophomore Krieg Adair was down in his first match when he put his man on his back and pinned him late. In 4. 8-- 1 4-- 2 the finals Adair met Slade Turner of Millard, a third place finisher in 2003 who beat Krieg earlier in the season. Turner scored first and with only seconds to go and down 5-- 0 it didnt look good for Adair, 1. 3-- 4-- |
