Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday, November 19, 2003 to Black Good-bv- e choose him. I remember as a kid and we would all line up to play a game. There was always someone that I wanted on my team. Back then it was my good friend Mark. It is the same now, except that it is I Matthew. Whenever I go to battle, I choose 1 sideline dad but 0 this story is for all 10, life. Casen, Shadd, or Black 10 made me proud in the state play off game last Zac of next year. It is time for me, Steve and Fred to give up our side line passes and let some other fanatic dad go out there and yell and cheer for his son and his team. Who can ever forget that admit buttons I popped a few during the game. I probably looked ridiculous running up and down the sideline looking I for someone to give a high-fiv- e to. He played his heart out. But all of the kids gave some, and some of the kids gave all. And as good a game as I thought he had, that has little to do with why I am proud of Black 10. lie teaches me daily how to live life. When I was worried about cancer he gave words of advice that are still imprinted in my mind. Like many of your kids he gets up everyday and shows me that his coaches, teachers and many others in the community have done a good job of raising Black 10. I wish I could take credit for him, but I cant. His mom has done wonders, but mostly I have just been there jumping up and down on the sideline saying stupid things like, looks just like the old man out there. I remember back - it seems like yesterday - I swear it was just moments ago, when he was one year old and I gave him his first hair cut. He was scared to death to see his dad coming at him with sharp scissors and clippers. His lip pouted out but he was brave and he sat so still trying to be brave - and he was. I ruined his hair, but now that I see how kids wear their hair, it makes me think I was before my time - a trend setter. He used to follow me around in the garage with some plastic tools pretending that he was fixing whatever it was that I was pretending to fix. I remember when he was in junior high football and he got d in a game. The mild mannered and normally calm my too kind and loving wife was going down on the field to kick somebodys behind. I had to physically restrain her and try all those soothing conflict resolution techniques I have read about.
