Show Helen Lee Foertsch NIELSON Helen Lee Foertsch was born July 2, 1922 in Pagosa Springs, CO, the second of two daughters bom to Stephen Lee and Mary Foertsch. She attended the Bayles School through the eighth grade. She then attended high school at Pagosa High and graduated never know the love of our parents for us till we have become parents. Henry Ward Beecher We with the class of 39. After that she attended Mercy Hospital in Durango and received her nursing degree. Helen worked as a nurse in Portland, OR and also in Pagosa Springs, CO. After some time, she quit nursing and began working at Mesa Verde. While at Mesa Verde, she met a girl from Blanding.who introduced her to Lyman DeReese Nielson. In May, 1952 they were married in Blanding. She loved to garden and keep up her yards and flowers. She was an immaculate housekeeper. She loved Native American jewelry, sunsets, and rainbows. She loved to cook and read recipes. She taught herself to sew and was a wonderful seamstress. She Truth is great and its effectiveness endures. Ptahhotep 11 loved Easter picnics, rain and the weather. She loved to watch the skies and predict storms and she at good at it. She enjoyed being a member of the Palette Club. She never complained, never swore and she never talked bad about anyone. She loved her grandchildren and was very proud of them. Her family always came first. She loved to take pictures but she hated to have her picture taken. She loved to watch Kids Say the Darndest Things, Family Matters, ice skating and Lawrence Welk. She was a medical miracle, having survived three open heart surgeries, artificial arteries, pacemakers and had many procedures to clean blood-clot- s from her legs. She was a fighter and never gave up. Helen Lee Nielson passed peacefully an. from this mortal life on January 20, 1999 with her family at her bedside. She is survived by her husband, Lyman D. Nielson, three children: Steven D. (Belinda) Nielson, Tara Dawn (Stephen) Olsen and Reesalee (Dale) Shutt, nine grandchildren and two great granddaughters.
