Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday, November 25, 1998 Page 14 What's new... Sy Mary Lou Mary Lou Hoggard 587-211- 4 In most homes, Thanksgiving Dinner is the most memorable meal of the year, bringing family and friends from near and far. Mothers, grandmothers, aunts and cousins are busy preparing specialties while children often snitch samples of the goodies. The real prepa- ration actually begins the evening before, when Mother starts to work her magic with the bird. Long after everyone is in bed, Mother puts the turkey in a slow oven and rises at intervals all night long to baste the majestic bird. When waking the next morning, the enticing aroma draws one to the kitchen to find mom already busy chopping, grating and slicing. Has she even slept at all? When dinner is finally announced, mother should be exhausted. Instead, she seems fresh, satisfied and content because the dinner is the usual masterpiece. Most important is all the love that is put into this feast. It seems to fill the dining room, along with the good aromas. Happy Thanksgiving from our house to yours. Hats off to the Monticello High School football team. Coach Bowring and the team stood in the cold on Friday morning in the Days Inn parking lot with a banner supporting the San Juan Broncos as they headed to the state championship game in Orem. More team support was given by many who traveled north to watch the Broncos win the championship game. Jamie and Christine Laws and Ron and Shirley Trent made the trip to support the team and watch nephew Ryan Swan play. Jim and Kimm Lacy and daughter Ryan were on hand to yell their hearts out for nephew Lehi Lacy. Donna Black and daughter-in-law Sherry Redd va- cationed for a week in Hawaii. They took in all the sights on the big island and attended an LDS sacrament meeting. Donna discovered that there are still a lot of honest people around. While she and Sherry dined at the Royal Steak and Seafood Restaurant, she lost her purse and immediately called her husband Glenn to cancel out her credit cards. The next day, Glenn received another call from Hawaii. It was the owner of the restaurant calling to report that they had the purse. Everything was in the purse. Who but the friendly Hawaiians would call from Hawaii to Blanding to report their find? Gary and Ellen Hout spent some quality time together in Las Vegas. The Stratosphere Big Top Ride proved quite a challenge for Ellen, although Gary took it in stride. Kevin Dunn and Jim Eberling spent five days in San Antonio, Texas visiting Kevins mother Geraldine. They went wild pig hunting. Apparently, before it was over a large boar came hunting them. It was brought to my attention of the death of Jerald Dunn, who passed away in June. Our condolences to Geraldine and her family. Earl and Rae Randall are enjoying the company of their granddaughter, Rachel, who is the daughter of Debra and Rick Spohn of West Jordan. The public is invited to attend a Senior Citizens craft day on December 11, at 2 pm at the Senior Center. If you have squeezee dish soap, bottled water, or syrup bottles, save the tops and bring them to the center. With a little magic, these tops can be used to create lovely Christmas ornaments. Sue Fisher is the new director at the Senior Center. Malva Jones is still involved, but she is working in the field on Senior Citizen involvement and activities. Edwin and Karen Taylor took the long way around to visit daughter Amanda, who lives and works in Flagstaff. While sightseeing around Globe, Arizona, they stopped at a flea market and ran into Ann Beeson. Ann sends a Big Howdy to all her friends here. Harold and LaVern Young will be spending the winter in St. George. Also heading in the same direction are Milton and Lucille Compton, who are looking forward to spending Society of Utah. Kedric was presented the Rancher of the Year award and plaque by Don Andrews, representing the Soil Conservation Service. Stephen and Maureen Olsen visited daughter Tammy and Kirby Hunt in Hartford, Connecticut. Kirby is an engineer for Pratt & Whitney which makes aircraft engines for Boeing. In the east, they attended the Broadway play Miss Saigon. In Hartford Stephen and Maureen met Elder Jay Redd and his companion and enjoyed a visit and dinner. Redd is serving an LDS mission. Ron and Shirley Trent have moved to Blanding after Rons retirement from Lakewood, California. They are glad to be back in San Juan County and plan to live with Shirleys mother, Marian Laws. Jasper Topaha of Red Mesa passed away after a long illness. Funeral services and burial were held at Red Mesa. He is survived by his parents, wife Cecilia, children and grandchild. Jasper was an avid baseball pitcher. I know everyone is going to have a great and exciting Turkey Day so please call me on all your famous visitors because I plan on telling you all about my famous sister upon my return from her house.
