Show Gray by Edge of the Cedars State Park & Museum Edge of the Cedars State Museum and Park A hidden jewel in Southeastern Utah Edge of the Cedars State MuscumPark, located in Blanding, Utah at 660 West 400 North follow the signs from US Highway 191 is open again to public access after being closed for major new construction and renovation. Edge of the Cedars State Park is the site of an Anasazi ruin which was inhabited from 800 to 1200 AD. The museum situated next to the ruin is the regional repository for archaeological collections excavated from public lands in southeast Utah. The museum presently houses over 100.000 artifacts, varying from display quality to materials kept for future research. The museum is famous for its exhibit of Anasazi pottery and other unique artifacts of the Anasazi Indian culture, such as baskets, ancient pueblo loom, feather sash, wooden plates, and stone knives. Additional exhibits in the museum focus on rock art, archaeology, the Navajo, and Ute Indian cultures as well as the early European settlers of southeast Utah. The museum also displays traveling exhibits, which are on view from one month to three months at a time. Located on the park grounds are distinctive sculptures representative of ancient Native American Rock Aft, plants native to the area, and a ruin with a kiva into which park visitors may descend. From the observation tower in the museum, a person can look across the Four Corners Area and see the four states. The new construction provides working and storage space for the receiving, processing and storage of excavated materials which will be curated at the museum. The renovation of the original building has created three new areas Visible Storage, Special Exhibits and a museum gift shop. Visible storage is a room the glass walls, which allows museum visitors to view "backrooms". Special Exhibits is a room with traveling exhibits and displays. The museum has visitor information and picnic tables. A nominal admission fee is charged. The museum is open every day from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM - September 16th through May 15th - except for the following holidays Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Civil Right's Day, and Presidents Day when the museum is closed.
