W .VV.. w .y. .s w.ws May 6, 1998 wv ' S JH Rattler staff takes field trip to B YU Roseanne Nielson By Are we there yet? whined Shea Redd, an impatient senior at San Juan High, as the bus headed to Provo for the journalism conference. The bus ride for these students was long and boring for some, yet others were constantly being entertained. The students that attended the journalism conference were Mrs. Wilcox, Shea Redd, Sheldon Spottedelk, Darlena Mustache, Liz Mueller and Roseanne Nielson, along with Michelle Lacy, Josh Johnson, Julie Kirk and Kisti Jo Harris who would perform at the State History Fair at BYU. Nine kids from Monticello and their advisor, Mrs. Barton, also rode up on the same bus. When the students arrived at their hotel in Provo, the Journalism staff settled down for the night while the History fair students were preparing for their big performances the next day. The next morning, the students once again loaded onto the bus and drove up to BYU where they would spend After the workshops were over, all the schools attending the their day going from workshop to workshop trying to learn ways to make The Rattler a better paper for San Juan High. Shea Redd, a senior and a member of the journalism staff stated, This trip was a very good experience for me. It was very educational and full of mind strengthening activities. The trip was not only educational, but fun. During the students two hour lunch break, the students participated in activities from bowling in the game room to shopping in the BYU Bookstore until it was time journalism conference gathered in a conference room on the third floor of the Wilkinson center for the awards ceremony. The Rattler took first place in every category except a tie in Sports and Light Features. The Rattler also given the award of Best 2 A High School newspaper. Tired yet proud, the students loaded the bus to begin their long and monotonous ride home. Along the way, students mostly slept only being awak- ened by a few short stops, one of which where the two Sports editors were unjustly punished for actions beyond their control. My legs were weak from sitting so long and so i used the luggage rack to pull myself to my feet. She (the bus driver) slammed on the breaks and made us get off. I was scared! cried a Still shaking Shea Redd. After that, the only noise was the sound of the wheels drive through slush and to go to the next workshop. San Juan Highs new web site has finally been launched. Now everyone can find out just exactly what things are really like here technology. in good of Blanding. The site also includes an archive section with last year's information. We never had a file server big enough to launch it here at SJH, said advisor Janet Wilcox.
