Grand prize winners in bicycle safety program Bridget Farlee is the first place grand prize winner in the Blanding bicycle safety program, a portable AMFM radio donated by A & M Propane. Second and third place grand prize winners are Damon Black and Craig Pehrson, who each won a bicycle wrench kit donated by Blanding Auto Parts. To be eligible for the grand prize drawing a child was required to attend a bicycle safety presentation, pledge to follow safe bicycle rules, and be a pledge card winner for a safety incentive. The final weekly pledge card winners will be notified by phone or mail to pick up their incentives at the Blanding Health Office. Blanding children who use safe bicycle practices are winners. Winners ride on the right side of the road with traffic, obey all traffic signs and signals, and do not ride on sidewalks or in crosswalks. Safe riders have reflectors and lights on their bicycles, do not ride double without a seat made for a passenger, have antennas for greater visibility, and use hand signals. Bicycle maintenance is important to safety. A maintenance check every six months is recommended. Check lists may be obtained at the Blanding Health Office. Safe riders never hitch a ride on a moving vehicle or try to beat a car or Navy Seaman Apprentice Lee D. Patterson, son of Barbara L.
