Thanks to Emery's efforts with state and local powers and thanks to Bill Skeen (oilman who meant to drill an oil weU and got water instead) we got water that comes out of wells. Jerry Baum says the only complaint State Health Inspector, Wayne Ball, has about our water now is the lack of some sort of shed on top of the weU. Wells? by Doris Valle First, let's get me out of trouble. I wrote this thing about the uranium tailings at Halchita. I went over there and listened very carefully to what the boys saii I was determined to be technically correct since we, as a community, should know what is going on with our own private pile of radioactive material. Unfortunately, just at the end, I stopped paying attention to what I was writing. May I hasten to inform the world that, these days, water used in Mexican Hat does not come out of the San Juan River. Traditionally, Navajos do not select baby names before the child arrives lest some harm come to the tiny spirit. To be more precise, there were more than 90 projects which had been prepared by students from grades 7 through 12 jammed into the biology room. I have been involved in science fairs for the past nine years and this fair was expeciaUy exciting because of the interest and participation by the students, who demonstrated an abiUty to think science and how it may be applied to their lives. The entire Science Fair is under the direction of Jack Seltzer, who wiU assist students in making the necessary modifications so the projects may be entered in the regional fair in early April. At a meeting to decide what should be done with the funds which went to the community as a result of this sale, a couple of citizens asked why, when the total amount of money involved was $11,135, the funds for local use amounted to $10,000. That question has been answered. $1,135 was split up and passed out to the members of the UNDC Board of Directors.
