Lecture: "The Navajo Language and Its Use as Code Language in World War H, Friday, March 29 in Montezuma Creek. Lecture: "The Navajo Lan guage, Saturday, March 30 in Blanding. Lecture: "The Hebrew Language: Its History and Relationto other Semitic Lanship guages, Saturday, March 30, at 3 p.m. in Blanding. Dr. L. Gary Browning, Young professor of Brigham Russian language and literature, will present the lectures on Russia. Browning, who has taught Russian at Harvard, Bryn Mawr and BYU, holds a doctorate in Slavic Languages and Literature from Harvard and has studied Russian at Moscow State University. A visitor to the Soviet Union on six occasions, he is the author of two books on Russian language and literature. He will visit the USSR, Poland, Hungary, Romania, and Austria in May as tour manager for the Brigham Young University Singers. Dr. Browning will lecture in Blanding on Saturday, March 30 at 10 a.m. and in MonticeUo at lp.m. Blanding Elementary sixth grade students who have been studying Russian wiU present a .program of Russian songs and dances following the Blanding lecture. Dr. Phillip Flammer, historian with a doctorate from Yale University, will conduct the workshops on Americas space program. He wiU discuss all aspects of the space program and how it affects our lives. The author of several books and many papers on air power and space, Flammer has been a on military visiting professor history at the National Air War College. Times will be listed in the Education Days schedule being mailed to all county residents. The lectures on Navajo folk medicine and folk music will be given by Dr. Keith Cunningham, professor of English at Northern Arizona University. A specialist in folk music, Southwestern folklore, and Native American folklore, Cunningham recently received grants to study concepts of disability and rehabilitation among Native Americans, and to produce documentary records of folk music for the Institute of Nevada Folklife Project. He frequently reviews books for the Journal of American Folklore and Southwest Folklore. Check schedule for time and place. Edward P. Tso, teacher at Rock Demonstration Rough School in Rough Rock, Arizona, will discuss Navajo holistic medicine. Tso has served as assistant superintendent of the Unified School District, Defiance, Arizona; as Adult Education Coordinator, Window Rock School District; and as Director of Navajo Health for the Office of Native Healing Sciences in Window Rock. Check schedule for time and place. Dian Thomas author, TV will and teacher personality lecture and give demonstrations on how to "rough it easy outdoors. The author of Roughing It Easy, Roughing It Easy 2, and Backyard Roughing It Easy, Thomas grew up in Monticello. Her books are used around the world as rich sources for joying life outdoors. She holds a masters degree in Home Economics and has taught at Brigham A regular Young University. on the Today Show, performer Dian has appeared on such television talk shows as The Johnny Carson Show, the Mike Douglas Show, the John Davidson Show, p.m. on 8 en- Phil Donahue and Good Morning America. Roughing It Easy sponsored by C. Hardy Redd, is scheduled for H a.m. and 7 p.m. March 30. The morning program wiU be held at San Juan High School. The evening program will be held at Monticello High School. Teddy Draper will talk about the Navajo language and its use as code language in World War II. Draper, who served as a Navajo code talker, currently at Rough Rock High teaches School. Friday, a.m., Saturday, March 30, Draper and Brian Stubbs will join forces in a lecture on the Navajo language. They will discuss historical origins, related languages and contemporary written forms.
