Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Thursday June 9, 1983 - Page 12 by Florence Galbraith Kirk and Hope Dalton were here visiting at the home of Ron and Myrtle Davis last week. Their home is in Alamogordo, New Mexico. They visited both the cemetery in Blanding and in Bluff on Memorial day. I talked with Eva Locke, who lives in Birmingham, Michigan, last Saturday. She said that they are not having any weather problems like we are in Utah. She is a former Blanding resident and a lover of San Juan. She celebrated her 83rd birthday on Saturday. She says she reads the San Juan Record from cover to cover every week. The Dan Barfuss family traveled to Provo the first part of the week and plan to continue to Idaho where David will spend the summer on his uncles farm, Gloria will be involved in classes at BYU before the family returns home. Reesa Lee Nielson is a medical assistant at Blanding Clinic. She is DeReece Nielsons daughter. Ray and Grace Hunt are back from their winter stay in Mesa. Richard Mainord and three children were coming home from Provo last weekend and when they were near Gunnison a car hit them and they received cuts and bruises and one son received a broken leg. Their car was totaled. Barbara Tate had major surgery at Utah Valley Hospital last Tuesday. Mark Pope, who has been teaching in our schools here for the past several years, has been assigned to the Monument Valley He is working on his School. masters degree at BYU. Suzanne Flannigan is giving exercise classes and aerobics this summer at Blanding Elementary School, Monday, edu--catio- nal Wednesday and Friday, beginning at 6:30 a.m. Call Suzanne if you wish to join. Swimming classes began on June 7 at the Blanding swimming pool. The femily tickets are $60 for a season ticket. Classes are available. Call Merri Black at for more information. Dr. Larell VanDyke and family are moving to Orem where he will continue his dental practice. He is now going to Orem to work on Mondays and Tuesday but still has office hours here the rest of the week. They plan to move before school starts this fail. June 6 was Dougs and my fifty-fif- th wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Craig Redd and and Mr. and Mrs. children, Dennis Guymon and children and Redd joined the Theressa Galbraith clan at the City Park on Monday evening for fried chicken with all the goodies and anniversary cake. 9 - 15 Specials for June xrmrrrrnrrrnrn. Fourteen graduates received associate degrees at CEU San Juan Center commencement exercises on June L Marsha Keele photo CEU Continue to be different, Dr. James Randolph, president, challenged the 28 graduates of CoUege of Eastern Utah San Juan Center at commencement exercises held June L He told the graduates that by their effort to complete their education they had made themselves unique. Nola Fitzgerald, valedictorian, told the graduates and guests that to set a goal and accomplish it gives you freedom to go on and accomplish other goals. Mary Jane Cantsee and Shirley Ramsay, graduating students, paid tribute to the coUege administration for providing an opportunity for college education at home. the graduates are: Associate in Science: Mary Jane Cantsee, Marlene Dee. Bemadine Dutchie, Nola Fitzgerald, Sharon Guymon, Marie" Holiday, Joyce Hunt, Benton1 Keith, Joe Lehi, Jennie Morris, Cory Shumway, Lillian Thomas, and Anna WeUs. Associate in Arts: Shirley Ramsay. Associate in Applied Science, secretarial: Jenkins, Eleanore Jim and Julia Nez. Certificate of Completion: Betty Bigboy, Irene Little, Teresa Jim, Sandra Murphy, Brenda Lisa Rarick, Sylvia Johnson At-cit- Clyde Benally was awarded an honorary degree during the exercises and Janet Wilcox was presented with two awards. (See separate articles.) A reception sponsored by the Utah Navajo Development Council followed the ceremonies. Commencement music was provided by soloists Elaine Wright, Center employee, and Sharon Guymon, one of the graduates.
