Profile of a German teacher by SheUey McRedmond Many high schools have German instructors. But not many have a German instructor straight from Gdansk, Germany. Hannelore Janke came to the United States when she was 25 years old. She arrived by ship in New York City and went straight to Salt Lake City on a greyhound bus. Janke left Germany because she didnt want to live in a communist country. Janke enjoys teaching at San uan J High but says that it is different in many ways. Schools in Germany differ from those in Utah because there is more emphasis on the academic, subjects. They dont have extra-curricu- lar have an Janke Hannelore authentic flavor because she was raised in Germany and frequently returns to visit her famUy. acti- vities except for after school. Janke really likes living in Blanding. She enjoys being away from the noise, pollution and traffic jams and especially likes the friendly people.
