Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Thursday October 7, 1982 - Page 8 Bucks punish Pirates, by Andrew Jensen The Monticello Buckaroos racked up another victory Saturday as they soundly defeated the Pagosa Springs Pirates 34-- 6 on Buc karoo turf. The first score of the game came with the first Buc karoo possession of the ball. After a drive, Rhett Maughanranthe football into the end zone. The extra point was unsuccessful. A big break came for the Bucks with 1;11 left in the first quarter when the Pirates fumbled behind their offensive line with a large Buckaroo defense on the rush. The extra point brought the score to 27-- 0. The Pirates kept trying but could not find a way to score. Pirate offensive was effective but was stopped dead short of the goal line by a powerful black death defense that refused to let them through. Bucks leading the tough were lineman Burton defense Black and Kirk Pearson. In the 34-- 6 back field it was Matt Redd, Ked Black and Rhett Maughan. Bucks scored again as their defense provoked a fumble in the Pirate end zone and Buckaroo Whipple fell on the ball. Rhett Maughan kicked the extra point. Score: 36-- 0. The Pirates scored only after the Bucks got in their last bite and fans thought there was no time remaining on the clock. Buckaroo Todd Eldredge intercepted three Pirate passes and the Buck defense made sure that the Pirate every quarterback was hit hard time he threw the ball. ' But the Pirates scored on a short pass. Adams Monticello High School team has had girls volleyball and downs this many ups season, including a win over Nucla last Thursday and a third place spot in the Moab Round Robin Touna-ame- nt on Saturday.
