Twenty --three percent more San Juan County students signed up at a USU this fall than last year total of 37. Autumn enrollment at USU reached 9,939 students, a total that USU was not expected to reach for another decade. The enrollment increased by 578 students, exenrollment ceeding the full-tiincreases of any other college or university in the Utah System of Higher Education, Dr. Cazier said. universitys full-ti- me me The increase at USU is the largest in 15 years and the second largest ever. The enrollees from San Juan also included more freshmen students, than ever before, a total of 19, USU statistics showed. This year's record enrollment at Utah State was totally due to increased numbers of Utah students. Significantly large creases were posted counties. According to a recently published report by the Utah Department of Indians Employment Security, experienced the highest 1979 unemployment rate 19.7 compared to 2.4 for whites. American Indian unemployment for females is also low with a percentage of 15.7 compared to a state female percentage of 11.1. American Indians receive the lowest over -- all starting wages, the report states. The average white starting wage is $3.97 per hour; for blacks it is $3.67; $3.64; Asians $3.57, and Indians $3.50. His-pani- cs American Indians represent only 30.8 of the San Juan County labor force;- they represent 78 of the unemployed. Poverty seems to occur most among those who are inexperienced and untrained, the report says. - Young children by the age of 2 need other children, not just to have fun, but to learn how to get along.
