Sister Francelle Blickenstaff related experiences of her mother Irene Redd, who now lives in the nursing home. She told of how she had helped so many people during the early days of Blanding. She told of some of the hardship her mother went thru in loosing her husband and being left to raise a large family. We were all encouraged to write our own histories so our families would have our stories and experiences. TTie fitness program is designed to promote an increased level of fitness and well-beiThe ng at two levels of conditioning, beginning and conditioned. Seniors accumulate points by participating in a variety of activities including walking, jogging, swimming, square dancing or by participating in the Sunshine Hop Exercise tape. This tape defor seniors is available for signed $1.00 at the Utah State Division of Aging. Points are recorded on an individual basis. At the end of the twelve month period, participants earn a gold award for earning 400 points, a silver for 300 and a bronze for earning 200 points. Awards will be given out at the annual Governors Conference on Aging held each September. Seniors may start at any time but 10 to 12 months will be needed to earn the gold award. The fitness program includes instruction on how to get started; points to consider before, during, and after exercise; information on your target heart rate zone; and instructions on how to take your pulse. By using the activity chart in the fitness program seniors earn points by meeting the standards listed.
