Im still not too old to remember the mixed emotions of joy and j sadness at this time of year - especially for the seniors. Congratulations to them for completing phase two of their education. Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Johnson of Cortez welcomed a little stranger to their home last week. He was born March 16th and weighed 7 lbs. 4 oz. He has dark hair and eyes like his new parents, who have named him Gary Forrest. Happy grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Johnson of East-lan- d and Mrs. Julia Hyde of Monticello. Congratulations to the Johnsons for this event. Mr. and Mrs. W. Clair Row-le- y of St. George, Utah will be honored at an open house long-await- ed commemorating their 50th wedding anniversary at the Parawon Third Ward Chapel on Saturday, May 27. They are the parents of Doyle Row-le- y of Monticello. Doyle and family are planning to attend. Welcome visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Asfalg last week were Mr. and Mrs. Merton Woodford of Palm Beach, California. Mrs. Woodford is Mrs. Asfalgs sister. Mrs. Hazel French and Mrs. Gladys Wilson enjoyed a recent weekend up north visiting with the Ken Connaughtons and Bill Christensen. Bill is a pre-mstudent at BYU. Throughout his sophomore year, he has been on the Deans list. He has also continued with his flying lessons and has about two hours to go before he gets his pilots license. He is also taking cerand has his scuba-divin- g tificate. Wonder what hes been doing in his spare time. The Young Marrieds of the Monticello Ward met at Buck-boafor a steak fry Saturday evening. Ten couples enjoyed the steak, dutch oven spuds, assorted salads and cakes. After eating, they played baseball and told tall tales around the campfire. Kenny French of Glendale, California, has just become a Certified Public Accountant. granddaughter, Angela, who feels bad about moving to Chicago this summer. I said, Youll probably really groove -on Chicago, to which she answered, I disagrooved on Logan, but I liked Provo. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Nieves, former residents of Monticello, have been called to New York City to be with Mr. Nieves mother, who is ill and in critical condition. Dian Baker and daughter, Vivian, of Salina, visited last week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Nelson. Recent visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Redd were their son, Curtis, and his fiancee, Leilah Thornack, and their daughter, Donna Lee, and her fiancee, Dan Wolfe. All are attending BYU at the present. Janet Blake has found out that hummingbirds have memories. Hers came back looking for their favorite feeder, which she hadnt got up yet, but did so at once. Nedra and Bruce Bunker are happy over the arrival of a baby girl, born Tuesday, May 23rd, at Utah Valley Hospital in Orem. She weighed 7 lbs. 13 oz. The happy grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Ned Jensen of Monticello, and Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Bunker of Salt Lake City. This is the first granddaughter for the Jensens and the Bunkers. Boyd is attending a seminar in preparation for his job in Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie N. Forrest enjoyed the weekend in St. George, where they visited the Bob Coopers. The new golden voice you hear on KUTA radio is that of George Walton. The Waltons have moved back to San Juan County from California. Welcome home! Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Young and baby were weekend visitors in Monticello. They will be Monticello residents after school is out the first of June. They will be living in the Willard Howlett home.
