Show Cattlemen look to new breeds American cattlemen seeking to produce the' ideal beef animal arc looking increasexotic ingly to the breeds, and a chance to study some of these cattle awaits those who registered for the First Security Bank Pacific Trails Agricultural Tour. The tour, scheduled Feb. 27 through March 8. will make several interesting stops at operations featuring the exotics, including Santa Gertrudis, Chianina and Simmemtal animals. One such stop is the Cattle Company which has "in residence" Simmental and Limousin animals. Located near Salinas, Calif. , Taunehill owns half interest in the largest Chianina herd in Northern Italy. Some of the new exotics represent crossbreeding in its more complex form, while other breeders and artificial insemination firms offer pure bloodlines ns a tool for those seeking their own particular type of crossbreeding alchemy. Many other interesting stops on the tour are designed to demonstrate to tour participants some of the most contemporary methods emplo ed by California cattle and dairymen. Also on the agenda arc visits to quarter horse and sheep randies. Plans call for buses to originate at five different Utah locations Logan, Vernal, Cedar City, Spanish Fork and Monlicello. The buses will meet in Salt Lake the morning of Feb. 27 and proceed to Elko, Nevada for the first ocr-nigstop. From Dko, the tour proceeds to Sacremento, Salinas Monterey, Anaheim, Santa Barbara, Las Vegas and back to Utah. so-cal- led Tan-neh- ill - ht offers 3 tracts BLM begins Feb. 27 and continues through March 8. Robert D. Nielson, BLM state director for Utah, said bids for the tracts mavt be submitted by mail, if received by BLM prior to March 10 at 10:00 a. m. , or may be made orally at the times of the bid openings. Bids will be opened in Room 8103 of the Salt Lake Federal Building March 10 at 1: p. m. and 1:30 p. m. , respectively, for the tracts near Monticello and Vernal. Bids must be for at least the appraised value of a tract plus costs of publication notices of the sale, Mr. Nielson explained. Contiguous land owners have a preference right to buy a tract by meeting the high bid within 30 days of the bidding. The tracts north of Monticello are in Township 31 South, Range 24 East. In all of these tracts any deposits of oil, gas, sodium and potash are reserved to the Federal Government as well for ditches as and canals.
