The article was submitted to the San Juan Record by Mr. and Mrs. Clement Johnson. The tribute is as follows:) On April 12, 1928, Brother and Sister Clement Johnson of Monticello welcomed a beautiful daughter into their home. We have wondered of late if the Johnsons could possibly have known on that day in April what a wonderful spirit the Lord had given them the what an privilege to raise influence for good she would become. Brother and Sister Johnson gave their daughter the name Elaine. She was educated in the Monticello schools and graduated from Monticello High school. On May 8, 1948 Elaine married Russel Anderson. They are now .the parents of four children, two boys and two girls. On March 11, 1960 a lifelong dream of Elaines came to pass when she and Russ were married in the Manti Temple and had their children sealed to them. Representing Utah in the United States Senate has been a demanding task but a most rewarding one. It has heightened my understanding of the necessity for strong progressive American leadership in the preservation and extension of human freedom," Sen. Moss said. We must expand our tourist attractions and build our educational and recWe reational opportunities. must build our water resources and expand our industrial capacity. Phone in your news 587-227- 7 Locally the news of the draining of Lake Powell was received with shock and dismay, especially by those who had looked to the lake as a new source of revenue for the area. The Monticello Chamber of Commerce, as well as other groups in the county, has protested the action in telegrams to Secretary Udall. In Page, Ariz., the businessmen and chamber there have urged that the lake not be lowered to the point that boat launching could not be accomplished at . the. Wahweap concession site. Sentiment seems aimed directly at Interior Secretary Udall with one countian asserting he had the solution to the problem. Just get Udall out here and Ill jerk his heaii off, he said. A regional vice president, a secretary and a treasurer will be elected by the Canyonlands Highway Association at a meeting with the Moab Chamber of Commerce in Moab next Monday evening. Jim Black, Monticello, acting president of the association, said Tuesday that the association would have the program for the chambers regular meeting Monday and, in addition to electing officers for the region, nominations for the association president would also be accepted. An association president and a northern region vice president will be elected at a general meeting of the association in Vernal some time in May. All members of the association and their wives are invited to be present at the dinner meeting Monday evening. The affair will be held in the Town & Country Club in Moab beginning at 7:30 p.m. Starting Baseball, Bicycles and Boafs It All Means . . . Burton Monday formally announced he will seek reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives from Utahs First Congressional District, Rep. Burton said he will campaign for reelection on his as an independent record moderate who represents all the people of this district. The people of Utah want a congressman who thinks for himself, weighs each issue carefully and votes his own convictions, Rep. Burton stated. They do not want a rubber stamp. Referring to his record, Rep. Burton said he had worked for federal aid to help build classrooms where they were needed, but, worked against the total federal aid program as unnecessary and wasteful. He said he had voted for the vocational rehabilitation act to train displaced and unemployed people in useable skills, but, opposed the Youth Conservation Corps which sounded good but would not solve any problem. I have supported sound, logical programs to solve real problems that exist and which the federal government should help solve, Rep. Burton stat- one of which: many talents is dancing. Elaine has also served as first and second counselor in the MIA and as president of. that same organization. She has had a tremendous influence on the young people in the MIA because of her sympathy and understanding. Last October Elaine became Winder 8th Ward Relief Society president It has become evident to all of us in that time that her sympathy and understanding is not limited' to the young people. She now occupies a special place in the heart of every sister in our ward because of her sweet spirit. Whatever the problem or task, our Relief Society president is equal to It.
