What these people are doing ages, the black, the degraded', the unfortunate, and very often vhen they unite with full pur-ooof heart in the relief of distress and human misery, they se iorget the technical differences about which they had previously contended. Taking the criterion of the Master for it, the tree which brings forth good fruit, is a good tree. At least, the limbs are good which, bring forth the good fruit, and if these limbs should predominate in the orchard, it would be a good orchard'. The religion of the Good Samaritan would be acceptable to every other Good Samaritan. Abraham Lincoln is said to have joined no church, but he found the great field in which all churches can act together; he acted there, he rejoiced there, and what he did in that field has endeared him .to the hearts of all true Americans. It is regretable that so much of the seeming zeal for Christianity has become fierce and bitter focussing of unreconsil-abl- e differences of 'belief, instead of uniting on the great, generous, wholesome principles of love and good will to which no one can offer objection. Every church cherishes certain rites and customs perculiar to itself yet offensive to other churches. Nothing has ever been accomplished by contention over these differences. Such contention will never bring peace to the world. They are outside the big field where men may unite in oneness of purpose. There is a way in which lovers of truth and justice and mercy can unite for the establishment of these things in the world. That way should, be of chief interest to all who cherish hopes that the world can be saved from the evil which hovers threateningly over it. - - well-meani- ng v. ij&t" largest groups of contestants. Toyman people are interested: in the desire of Christian churches to find a basis on .which they can unite for the i:J general redemption of mankind. Some people declare that is im- possible, and in the strict sense 1 of the word, it is impossible. Yet there is a field, a great, wide glorious field in which all the denominations and individuals of Christian belief can unite. Truth is always in harmony with truth, no matter by what name it may be known. Some rites and ceremonies and beliefs and practices may not be readily acbut cepted by many as truth, men in .this great field where may act in harmony, there are vital principles on which they can at once unite. Honesty is cleanliness, sanitation, truth, all and justice love mercy, these are an unchallengable part of truth. Some time ago a man and woman came to me representing the Seventh - Day Adventist Church, but they were talking only of their part and their ambition in the big field where all churches- may act together. This is not to imply any disparaging thought of what is sacred to them, of precepts and principles, but they were illustrating in a fineon and generous which way a method people can join together for a positive tide of good things in the world to offset and overcome the evil. This man and woman gave me figures of the schools and hospitals they have established, of the aid they are giving to needy peoples, the generous contribution they are making in tithes and offerings for the good of mankind. Their work extends to many lands, and is unquestionably deserving of the good will nd endorsement of all who see hings in the light of truth, ihese two representatives were aere in the interest of a hospital in the neighborhood of the Goulding Trading Post in the reservation.
