With over 80 per cent of the commercial butter fat pro duced ln Idaho sold ln the form of butter, principally on the California market, Idaho dairymen must regard seriously the matter of cream quality, according to F. W. Atkeson, head of the dairy husbandry department of the University of Idaho college of agriculture. For several years past Idaho has sold more butter on the Los Angeles market than any other state outside of California. To hold this market, Idaho dairymen must continue to produce high quality cream, which Insures high quality butter, he says. A study was started this summer by the dairy department of the college of agriculture In Canyon and Ada counties to determine the cost of gathering cream by direct truck collection through organised routes, and the factors influencing the quality of cream produced by the individual patrons. The study was conducted by Professor D. R. Theophilus.
