Show August 2004 foasefosiDD peeim Fall Sports Guide 19 to DskqI wnto dtotoinis The Green River Pirate baseball team is looking forward to the new season after having been eliminated last season in the state quarterfinals by West Ridge High School. The Pirates were the only team last season to defeat the eventual champion Panguitch Bobcats. Cody Webster, a senior, will anchor the pitching staff this season. Sophomores Parker Hatt, Kaden Robertson, Jace Vetere and Kaleb Fail, a returning second teamer, will be on the mound also. Freshman David Wilson will also be called upon. The Pirates will be looking to continue being a fundamentally sound defensive ball club. They look to continue the traditions of past Pirate clubs. Cory Vetere, who batted .442 last season, and Kaleb Fail, who batted .392, will lead the Pirate offense. Parker Hatt, with a .244 average, and Kaden Robertson with a .296 average will be asked to be team leaders this season. Others looking to play are Nic Brady, Rene Escalante, Weston Vetere, Adrian Lucero, Brent Johnson, Jon Wilske and Nick Burns. Dale Richards will continue as head coach with this team and will be assisted by Greg Parsons. Greg was head baseball coach at Dugway before returning to Green River last year. Thomas Hughes is away serving this country in Afghanistan and will return to his position next season The Pirates open play Aug. 17 against A all-sta- te Wasatch Academy at home.
