Show 4 Fall Sports Guide August 2004 -- retoiras eiieeonced poster roDDefoaUD wotttft) The Green River Pirates are ready to return to their place of dominance in volleyball with the return of most of last years team and the hiring of a new coach. Green River has hired Kayce Fluckey, a 1986 Green River graduate and volleyball player, to be the new high school coach. She has hired as assistant coach Stan Parsons, a veteran coach who has helped many a Pirate over the years excel in many sports. Parsons was actually Fluckeys high school coach. Returning for the Pirates this season on the court are seniors Kelsey Swalberg and Amanda Watterson, juniors Ciji Vetere, Whitney Bigelow and Aubree Dinkins, and sophomores Adriana Cordova, Heidi Vetere and Charle Vetere. This is a young team who will provide excellent volleyball for years to come, pointed out Fluckey. This season will be the reward of having a building year last season. This team has lots of talent and with hard work and dedication, they should have a very successful season. Two years ago, the Pirates finished fifth in state but saw their fortunes slip last year when they missed the play-off- s entirely. They are anxious for that not to happen again. Fluckey said they are going to work on the basics as practice begins. The season began with a game on Aug. 19 at Manila and opens at home on Aug. 26 against Meridian. 1-- A Great People - Quality Food - Low Prices Summer Hours: M-- S 8-- 9 Winter Hours: 221 North Main, Huntington The return of most Pirate players to the team gives new coach Kayce Fluckey high expectations for the season.
