Show ill 8A Emery County Progress Castle Dale, Utah Tuesday February 11,2003 Emery County Historical Society Welcomes Collector and Author Buckhorn Archery Club Right On Target ' i f i iarO 4 If interest that has continued to contribute to his busy, industrious life Lacy has written numerous books about Utah historical events, collected over b(),()()0 historical photos and has the largest film collection of Utah history, including a film about Ferron Peach Days held in 1017 Lacy has also opened his own museum in Salt Lake and has been nominated for two Emmy Awards for his work on documentaries Lacys museum in Salt Lake, Footprints of the Past, contains his extensive collection of historical items from movies and actual events His collections have spurred friendships that have led to discoveries about Utah historical personages Laev has Ins own theories about The Emery County Historical Society held its monthly 23 at the Museum of the San Rafael To begin the meet-ingonJ- evening, Candy Price, Barbara Moore and Doris Walker entertained the crowd with musical numbers, Whispering Pines and Cowboy, Youre Ridin For a Fall Steve Lacy, the guest speaker for the program was introduced Lacy was born in Dragerton and spent most of his youth in southern Utah Lacy came to Emery County 30 y ears ago to be a teacher His experiences here, alongwilh the urging of Ina Lee Magnuson, Sam Singleton, Pearl Baker, Owen Price and Lindora Draper, inspired him to investigate the interesting history of the area This investigation sparked an what actually happened to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid Lacy's theories include that Butch Cassidy spent a lot of time in Emery and Carbon counties and that both died old men, not in a shootout in South America Lacy met Joyce Warner, Matt Warners daughter, who told Lacy of Cassidys visit to Carbon County in 1939 to visit with her father Cassidy was using two aliases, Frank Ervin and Frank McMullin at that time. I By COREY BLUEMEL Staff Writer Oil chery Club held their first shoot i 31 - at the Emery Recreation Center in Castle Dale This neyvly! formed club, under the direction! of Carl Sitterud, president, hosts! archery enthusiasts from all. over Emery and Carbon coun-- ; ties. At w H i itX; Become Active in Your Community. ; the present time, the club has 84 members, six of which are women and 10 are young people aged 12 and up Beginning at ( p m on Wednesday nights for the next 10 vv eeks, the archers will compete for high, scores for accuracy The rounds are shot in groups of four on a team, but scoring is on an indi-- . vidual basis with handicaps be- ing used so beginners are on playing field with the more experienced shooters Each four person team shoots, to hone their skills with the bow and arrow Many of the shooters are bow hunters looking to keep Wade Anderson, Dale Fuller and Bo Short score the targets and retrieve their arrows. Archery league shooters take careful aim at their targets. Competition was fierce and fun.
