As a small community paper with a small staff we appre- ciate contributions from the public. Submissions make the paper more interesting and make our jobs a lot easier. In an effort to increase the professional appearance of the paper and overall efficiency, the staff of the Progress would like to put forth the following guidelines for submissions and tips for improved service. Guidelines for photos: The motto garbage in garbage out holds true in this area. For our purposes, the best photos are original (not reproduced), black and white, good focus and contrast and do not require enlargement. Not too many people use black and white film anymore, so good color photos are fine. Reproductions such as computer printouts or wedding invitations make our production third generation and greatly decreases quality. A second thing to watch out for is images that are too small. If we have to pull your missionarys face out of the distance from a snapshot there isnt much detail left when we get it- to the size we need. We want pictures of your family members to look good as much as you do so please be selective when bringing them in. Guidelines for articles: We love submissions from controversial issues so long as the arguments stay focused on the issues. Submissions that have been carefully edited make our job easier and can be turned in on floppy disk, typed, faxed or (in order of Due to the fact that much of our administrative, ad- vertising and circulation n the public news stories, advertising category.
