With the actual combining of the two offices came the merging of files and the training of staff in new and added responsibilities This has been done with little or no increase in the number of employees compared to the Auditors office alone m past years and has resulted in an extremely and committed staff that could stand up to the largest of counties While all this has happened our office has increased our efforts to better serve the public Except for some inhumation classified as pm ate all t he records and mfoi mation m our office is public and avail well-qualifie- mEGOOD d Election Camping in Huntington Canyon Karen Truman County ClerkAuditor County ClerkAuditor able to you and we have made every effort to furnish that in a timely manner When given the opportunity to negotiate the purchase of some items I have been able to save thousands of dollars. In 1996 I recommended that Emery County go to an optically scanned elect ion ballot that requires the voter to fill in the oval next to the candidate or party of their choice The ballots are then fed through a counter which records the votes and makes a tabulation in a matter of minutes By going to an optically scanned ballot we could eliminate the hiring of 33 judges used to count ballots at each major election and eliminate the fatigue and stress that comes ith counting paper ballot s We would obtain more accurate and faster results. Most othei counties had gone with a punch card ballot and the State of Utah was offei ing$l,500 00 to the counties to upgrade. Am I now being punished because I am environmentally conscientious? This is ridiculous! There is no way that a trailer is going to kill more vegetation than a tent. (If you question this, put a tent up on your lawn for a couple of days and see what happens.) Why am I being discriminated against because I have a trailer. Would you like to camp in the area that were being told to use with 30 to 40 other trailers, four wheelers and dogs? I think not? No, it seems that we are only catering to tourism and all of the city folk who like to camp with hundreds of other people. Its time to speak up as citizens of Emery County and be heard! How much bureaucratic hog wash and b c are 'we going to stand for anyway? We cannot just ignore everything that is taking place in our county until its too late If we do, all of our roads and all of our camping opportunities will be lost forever Please get involved and attend the meeting being held to review the Forest Service Resource Management Plan at the Courthouse on Oct. 13 at 11 a m If you dont want to heard, please at least come and be counted.
