Show Rodeo report Spartan spot By Kate Kofford Rodeo club reporter The Emery Rodeo Club will host its annual qualifying rodeo Friday and Saturday. The Friday show will start at 5:30 p.m. Saturday morning slack is at 9:00, and Saturday show is at 5 p.m. The cow cutting will be at the Huntington arena on Saturday at 9 a.m. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for students, and $1 for children. Kids under age six are admitted free. There are 658 entries for the rodeo with contestants coming from as far north as Manila and as far south as Escalante. The stock producer for the rodeo will be SlashC out of Kamas. The Carbon High Rodeo Club will be sponsoring its rodeo at the same time. The states cowboys and cowgirls then have the opportunity of hitting two rodeos on the same weekend. Our members will also be competing there. The club is hopeful of capturing many of the top 10 spots, but it has been the members experience that hometown performances arent always super. We hope this year will be the exception. Many members traveled to By Adaire Robertson ECHS reporter The last two weeks in April will be activity packed for the students of Emery High On Tuesday, April 20, the baseball and softball teams will travel to Wasatch High School for games there. Their next game will be Friday, April 23, at home against Uintah. On Friday, April 16, some of the members of the Emery High Concert Choir traveled to Cedar City to participate in the Spring Choral Festival at Southern Utah University. As time for the state finals grows intense, the contestants are still working to qualify for state finals. Team ropers are winning with a time of 6.53 seconds; goat tying times are a low eight seconds; breakaway ropmg is down to two seconds; and calf ropers are having nine second runs. Each rodeo we go to has close to a hundred contestants and sometimes more contestants in the timed Emery County Jr. Jazz team played in a tournament for four Jays in Salt Lake City recently. The boys played well, defeating. Ogden and Sandy the first two nights, and then defeating Idaho Falls the next night. On April 1 the parliamentary team competed for the state title. The team placed very high and consisted of Garrett McMullin, chairman, Jamie Magnuson, secretary, Matt McMullin, Tyrell Gray, Dal Gray, Glen Wells, Mistie Johansen, Kirk Christiansen, Rodney Ewell and Corinne Jensen. Also, Alayna Luke compted and won the state title in prepared public speaking. Alayna will now attend the national convention in Kansas City, Mo., and compete for the national title. Competition will be held between sixth and seventh graders and between eighth and ninth graders. Events include hurdles, 100 meter, 800 meter, 200 meter, 400 meter, 1600 meter, long j ump, pole vault, shot put, high jump, softball throw and dis- '93 EAGLE visors. Tracy, a senior, placed first In the 100 and 200 meters against Duchesne, first in the 200 anagainst Richfield, and has been the season. 1 this team 4 x 00 chor of the relay letterman for Emery and He is a one of the top Region7sprinters. Shanna, who plays centerfield for Emery, helped the Lady Spartans to three wins last week. She was three for four against Carbon with a home run, two for four with a double and three RBI against Lehi, and one for three with a home run against Delta. The senior also played well defensively. Zac, a junior, pitched Emery to a win over Lehi by going five and a third innings, giving up four hits and four runs while striking out five. Next week, the baseball and softball teams will travel to Union High School on the 27th to play against the Cougars. The teams will play again at home against Carbon on the 30th. Spring battle of the classes will be held next Friday also. The sophomores and juniors will have their last chance to defeat the seniors. The competition is sure to be exciting. May the best class win. The meet is for junior high school boys, and it begins at 10 a.m. on May 1 with the finals scheduled for noon. Hwy 55 Price, Utah All-Sta- rs solo-Jado- meet COMMUNITY All-st- Students from many schools enjoyed a cookout and a dance the first night after two and a half hours of rehearsals. The next morning, Emerys choir had an opportunity to participate in a special workshop with the guest director, Dr. McEwen. After two more one and a half hour rehearsals, they perfomred their numbers along with three other groups in the SUU Centrum. Recently the choir participated in the region solo and ensemble festival. To qualify for state, an individual or group had to receive a superior rating. Those who qualified will participate in state competition this Saturday at n BYU. They are: vocal School. events.
