Drama department opens season with Deadly Earnest On Nov. 14 - 17, 1990, the Emery High Drama Department will present its first play of this season, a comedyfarce called Deadly Earnest. It is the story of a young man, Henry Gilcrest, who has fallen on hard times. His aunt has kicked him out of her boarding house; he as been fired from his job; and his girlfriend has dumped him all on the same day. He is so despondent that he is easy prey for a strange little man who convinces him that he could become a hero by hiring a hitman to help him commit suicide. The strange little man tells Henry that he will make the arrangements with a hitman friend of his for the small fee of $17.83. Henry pays the money and goes to tell his friends good-b- y and wait for the hitman to do the job. All Henry knows is that the hitmans name is Earnest. At this point in the play, everyone who enters seems to have Earnest somewhere in their name, from Eamestine to Ernie. Henrys predicament, his reaction, and the solution all lead to one of the funniest plays ever done at Emery High. Neal Peacock, the director, said, This is really a play that the whole family will enjoy. Both adults and children will find this a hilarious situation play. The play will be held each night at 7 p.m. in the Emery High School Auditorium, but it will be done in arena seating to put the audience right on top of the action. Because of this, seating will be somewhat limited. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance from Emery High drama students. The prices are $3 for adults, $2 for students and senior citizens, and $12 for a family pass. Deadly Earnest has been double cast to allow more students the opportunity to perform and this, according to Mr. Peacock, makes it a different play every night. The cast involves a good balance of veterans of Emery High plays and newcomers. T i ii Stray-Pederse- Lisa Adams The Emery High faculty has named Shawn Borba and Stacey Bott Students of the Week.
