DAVIS By LARRY Progress editor A rally in the bottom of the fifth inning by the Emery junior varsity baseball team sent the game into an extra inning where the Spartans managed to add a run in the bottom of the sixth to record a win against Manti 5-- 6-- 5 on April 18. 5-- The win put Emerys JV on the season, record at on but Friday, the Spartans dropped a pair of games to Carbon to put the record to going into action this week at North Sanpete on Tuesday and at home against South Sevier on Friday. Against Manti, Emery fell behind going into the bottom of the fifth. It was the last hope for Emery, but the young Spartans rallied for five runs to tie the game. Mike Gagon started things off with a single, and he reached second on a fielding error. Cody Wilson followed with a 5-- Allred, who came into the game in the top of the fifth in relief of Lyle Everett, gave up a lead-of- f single in the tog of 6 the sixth, but a double play from Childs to Pearson to Baltzer got him out of a jam as the side was retired in order. In the bottom of the sixth, Gagon opened with a double to left on a ball which bounced over the fence. Wilson followed with a single to right, scoring Gagon and bringing in g run. the Childs and Pearson Gagon, each had two hits and an RBI in the game while Stilson, Baltzer and Wilson had one hit each and an RBI each. Allred was the winning pitcher, going two innings while allowing no runs and giving up just one hit. On Friday, Emery traveled to Carbon High for a nonconference JV and sophomore game with the 3A school. In the second game, played mostly by sophomores and ninth graders, Carbon took command early, scoring 13 runs in the first inning off starter Trent Allred and reliever Mike Gagon. Carbon added seven more runs in the game to record the 20-- 4 win. For Emery, the four runs came in the third and fourth innings. In the third, Childs singled, advanced on a single by Jared Butler and then scored on a single by Baltzer. In the top of the fourth, Allred doubled to left and then scored on a Pearson single. Pearson then scored on a hit by Childs, and Childs scored on a single by Stilson. Childs and Butler each had two hits in the game, but Carbons offense was too much for Spartan pitching. The Price Ranger District, Manti-LaS- al National Forest, is proposing to harvest approximately 900,000 board feet of Engelmann spruce, subalpine fir and aspen and approximately 250,000 board feet of older dead Engelmann spruce in the Left and Right Fork of Boulger Canyon. The method of timber harvest will be the preparatory cut of the shelterwood system. The objective of this cut is to commercially harvest high risk and excess sawtimber trees plus salvage of dead trees. saw-timbe- r, saw-timb- er approximately 75 to 100 trees per acre and bring the timber stands into a managed condition. To facilitate harvest activities, 1 12 miles of the Boulger Lake Road will be reconstructed.
