Show 2B Emery County Progress Tuesday, November 29, 1988 Spartans win first three games (Continued from Page IB) Bradley continued to score, hitting for eight more points to go with two from Tuttle, four from Todd Huntington, five from Gordon and two from Ryan Stilson. With a 6 lead going into the final frame, Emery managed to coast to the win. Bradley led all scorers with 33 points, a career high, while Tuttle and Gordon finished with 19 each. On Saturday night, the tournament shifted to Wasatch where Emery faced Wasatch, the team which knocked Emery out of the undefeated ranks of the 2A tournament last season. Coach Jeffs had previously listed the Wasps as one of the top three 2A teams in the state, and they lived up to that billing 21-1- point in the game but saw limited action in the second half. However, the Spartans continued to dominate the scoring as Gordon, Tuttle and Jason Nelson helped Emery outscore the Devils 5 in the second 42-2- half. High point scorer in the game was Gordon with 19 while Bradley finished with 18 and Tuttle added 10. Eleven Spartans scored in the contest. On Friday night the Spartans found themselves in northern Utah for a game against Morgan, one of the better teams in Region 9. Again, Bradley paced the Spartans early with 24 points in the first two quarters. Tuttle also had a good first half, scoring 14, as Emery dominated the inside. Those points helped Emery to 7 lead at the half, but a Morgan managed to keep pace in the third period although Emery outscored the Trojans 48-2- 9. 69-4- against the Spartans. As in the previous two games, Emery came out of the blocks in a hurry as Bradley hit for 12 points and Tuttle added six. That helped Emery 5 to a lead, but Wasatch first-quart- er 22-1- EMERY HIGH SCHOOL Players of the Week bounced back in the second period, outscoring Emery 1 to take a 3 lead at the half. Emery battled back in the third period as Bradley and Tuttle scored inside while Gordon hit two The Spartans outscored the Wasps 6 to regain the lead at 31-2- 46-4- 21-1- 64-6- Foul problems plagued Wasatch in the final period as Emery went to the line 14 times, scoring eight points. Bradley, Tuttle, Gordon and Cody Allred added field goals as Emery put the game on ice. It was another impressive game for the Emery big men as Bradley led all scorers with 32 points, and Tuttle finished with 29. Gordon was also in double figures with 16 points. Junior varsity opens with Ferron 4th ward wins Alayna Larsen Alayna Larsen, Todd Huntington and Bodee Allred have been named Players of the Week at Emery High by their coaches. Alayna helped the Lady Spartans to a win over Moab by pulling down seven rebounds and scoring nine points. Todd helped the Spartans to three road wins for the Kelly Huffacker, Brenda Williams and Brenda Dugmore. Back are Shane Gentry, 3 wins junior varsity basketball team is off to a great start, winning three games in as many outings last week. The team opened at Moab on Nov. 23 and routed the Devils 8 as five Spartans finished in double figures. Jason Nelson led all scorers with 15 points while Jason Huntington added 13, Rob Wagoner had 11, and Cody Allred and Scott Chynoweth had Tournament by winning all three of his matches in the 125 lb. division. It was another solid offensive performance for Nelson as he poured in 23 points while Allred hit for 18. On Saturday, Emery was at Wasatch where the Spartans won This time Nelson hit a career high 29 points as he dominated the inside scoring. Emerys junior varsity will travel to South Sevier on Friday and then to Carbon on Saturday. The game time for junior varsity action is 5: 30. 70-5- The LDS church held its Utah d South Area Volleyball 9 in Tournament on Nov. Price. Three counties were involved Duchesne, Carbon and Emery, and eight teams competed with local teams doing very well. From there, the top four teams advanced into a championship bracket, and the four lower teams dropped into a consolation bracket. Huntington 5th Ward and Cleveland 2nd Ward were tied for the fourth spot in the winners bracket, and Cleveland was given the higher position because of total points. Huntington 5th went on to win the consolation championship A round title volleyball 2nd and went co-e- d then on Price 8th once, Cleveland once, and Price 7th twice in close matches. Players from the team include: Shane Gentry, Wes Fish, Chris Fish, Mark Williams, Jeff Downard, Bob Jackson, Brenda Dugmore, Kelly Huffaker, Brenda Williams, Jessica Guest and Heather Gren. They were coached by Eugene Williams and VaLynn Huffaker. Each and player received a the team won a volleyball. Five players were named to the Team from the region and county. They are Shane Gentry, Kohn Ward, Brenda Dugmore, Heather Gren and Beth Bell. Brenda received most valuable player and received a new volleyball. Cleveland Players from that team include : to defeat Kari Mortensen, Travis Wakefield, Cory Magleby, Jennifer Justice, Beth Bell, Kristi Fox, Laura Cullum and Tricia Cullum. They were coached by Connie Potts. Cleveland 2nd Ward won third place and tied for sportsmanship with Neola. They for winning received sportsmanship. Players from that team include: Melissa Arrington, Jennifer Allred, rt, Brook Griffin, Holly Ward, Adam Arrington, Kohn Ward and Brink Griffin. They were coached by Trudy Griffin and Carla Arrington. Ferron 4th Ward won first place and became the champions of the tournament. They recognition, and Shane was the lost their first match to runner-up. 73-6-5. UP&L worker runs marathon Leland Jonas, of Price, was one of 42 runners representing the Army and Air National Guard at the 13th annual Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C., Nov. 6. The guard runners were among 12,190 runners participating in the race. Emery was in command of the game from the early going and got scoring from eight players throughout the game. The National Guard marathon team was determined last May in Lincoln, Neb., where nearly 400 Army and Air Guard runners from across the nation ran the annual Lincoln Marathon. The top National Guard finishers became the team which represented the National Guard in the Marine Corps Marathon. Jim Lanham, Md., was the overall winner in Hage of while Lori Lawson, Philadelphia, was the first woman to finish the race. Her time was 2:51:25. Jonas had a 2:21:58, 5 years of military service.
